Alien Nation was a 1988 sci-fi/buddy cop movie directed by Graham Baker, and starred James Caan as a prejudiced police offer who reluctantly partners with an alien "newcomer" by the name of Sam Francisco (Mandy Patinkin). It was a moderate success, spawning a TV series, novels, and comic books; and has attained something of a cult following over the years.

Now THR report that a remake is in the works at Fox with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (best known for their work on the first Iron Man) writing the script. According to the site, the studio hopes to replicate the success of their recent Planet of The Apes relaunch. Though plot details are scarce, this first film will apparently begin by telling the story of "how and why the aliens came to Earth."

If they deliver a decent re-imagining of the concept the way the Battlestar Galactica re-imagining was done, then I have no problem with it.

Any good remake should be as different as possible to the original without losing the core of the concept otherwise no point in revisiting it in the first place, just watch the original.

It amazes me how Hollywood keeps remaking one sci-fi movie after another and yet there have been several TV shows and movies that were great and that the public would like to see continue - and yet - Hollywood does nothing about it. Right now, there's this FANTASTIC sci-fi movie on Netflix called PARALLELS that should really be a TV series! If you haven't seen it, go check it out!
I'm not a promoter of the flick, I just HATE to see good stories fall to the wayside and disappear because some schmuck executive has no sense of imagination or creativity and is only concerned with numbers!

I wondered if Hollywood was going to reboot the movie. I've always been a fan of the movie and the series. I'd like to see a prequel of sorts prior to the ship crashing on Earth.

I don't mind the remakes and reboots all that much. It doesn't change how I feel about the originals. I wouldn't mind seeing Beastmaster getting a serious reboot. Fantastic Voyage, When Worlds Collide and Creature from the Black Lagoon are just a few of the others I'd go see.

Not sure what Fox has to do to prove themselves again. Origins was their last bad movie (when it comes to comic/sci-fi adaptations at least, which is the only thing fans constantly complain about) and since then their quality as been on par with Marvel or better, yet Fox is still a bad word on this site because of their films 6 years ago.
