Noah Hawley's ALIEN Series Still Taking Shape At FX Even As Fede Alvarez's Movie Gears Up To Begin Shooting

An Alien movie is heading our way courtesy of Evil Dead helmer Fede Alvarez, but Noah Hawley's TV show hasn't fallen by the wayside as we have a very promising update from FX's head honcho. Check it out!

Alien was among the many franchises acquired by Disney when they merged with Fox, and after successfully rebooting the Predator in Prey, there's a lot of excitement to see what the studio has in store for the Xenomorphs.

We recently got a big update on Fede Alvarez's Alien movie, but some overdue news about FX's planned TV show has now been revealed courtesy of network boss John Landgraf. Heading our way from Fargo and Legion showrunner Noah Hawley, fans are definitely intrigued by plans for a small screen take on the iconic sci-fi franchise and it's clearly coming together nicely.

Reiterating that the scripts for season 1 are finished, Landgraf reveals (via SFFGazette.com) that the show is now in "active preproduction" before "gearing up for production this year."

Hawley has reportedly met with his production designer and cameras will officially begin rolling on this Alien series once the writer and director has finished working on the highly anticipated fifth season of Fargo

The TV show was first announced in December 2020, with the filmmaker later confirming that the action will play out on Earth. Landgraf has called this an "extension and reinvention" of the Alien franchise, and it's unclear whether it will tie into Alvarez's movie in any way.

However, we do know that it will be relatively standalone in nature.

"It's the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth," Landgraf revealed last year. "So, it takes place on our planet. Right near the end of this century we're in - so 70-odd years from now. Ripley won't be a part of it or any of the other characters of Alien other than the alien itself."

We're intrigued to see what direction the show takes us in, and while there will be those who are disappointed we won't focus on familiar locations and characters, an argument could be made that it's about time to move on (that was evident from what we saw in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant).

Are you excited about this take on the Xenomorph?

The “via SFF Gazette” drives me bonkers… not gonna lie. It should say “via TV Line, brought to you by SFF Gazette, a Comic Book Movie website” or some shit. Or not. Obviously the other sites don’t get the participation as they do here. Can’t we just have them roll up to main? They end up here regardless

@WhatIfRickJames - I do wish there was some iframe way to stick them on here.

For now, I agree. Now it's just a classic Bob Saget joke: "that's true, I read it! Okay, I wrote it down and then I read it"

Is it true the title for this new film will be either “Local” or “Indigenous”?

@IronGenesis - native? Or maybe just the opposite foreign. Alien is ofcourse a very stigmatizing term

I'll give anything Alien a look.

Alien was the best horror movie ever. Aliens was the best sci fi movie ever.

Kinda surprises me. Never expected either project to get out of the development phase.

Also, wonder if we'll ever get Neil Blomkamp's Alien

I might give this series a try but there is isn’t anything outside of the first two Aliens that is equal to those. Although personally o do have a soft spot for the first Alien vs. Predator.

I'd really like to get my hopes up for this ....but....I've been let down too much in the past. Prometheus was disappointing...and Coventant was dumb ! Hopefully Disney can get it right !
