Reported at Sci Fi Wire, "Avatar" took in an estimated $75 million domestically during the 3 days beginning on Christmas day. With that said, it is only a 3 percent drop from the domestic gross in its opening weekend. "Avatars" total rose to $212.3 million all across the USA and neighbors Canada.

"Sherlock Holmes" pulled in about $65.4 million over the Christmas weekend and set a Christmas Day opening record of a massive $24.8 million.

Now in third place is "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," which exceeded the studio's forecast with $50.2 million for the 3 days. So it looks like we'll be getting a "Alvin and the Chipmunks 3" oh yes.
