Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ GODZILLA reached some box office milestone this weekend. Propelled by grosses in Japan, the film has now taken in $307.3 million internationally and $507.4 million worldwide.

Rough estimates from Toho put GODZILLA’s 2nd weekend in Japan at ¥324.2 million (Approximately $3.2 million US) from approximately 427 screens. GODZILLA ranked #2 behind Warner Bros. Japan’s debuting RUROUNI KENSHIN: KYOTO INFERNO (るろうに剣心 京都大火編, Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Taika Hen). The estimated cume to date in Japan is now ¥1.54 billion (Approximately $15.1 million US).

The good news continued on the domestic front as the film finally passed $200 million at the box office in America. As recently as mid-July it appeared that GODZILLA would fall short of that mark, but during the second half of the month it received the needed bump in ticket sales from second-run and discount theaters.

GODZILLA will be released on Blu-ray and DVD September 16th. Legendary Pictures recently announced that director Gareth Edwards would return for sequels featuring Godzilla’s most popular Toho co-stars: Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah.

The announcement of the sequel with the classic Kaiju was one of my favourite SDCC events. Good to see Gojira back and in good shape!

you know what, this is online now and watching it again I got as far as cranstons character dieing, going to the first proper appearance of godzilla, jumping to a few main parts and going to the end fight, johnsons character and story arc is pretty boring, there aint enough to grip me with this story to not want to just jump the godzilla scenes, but it was enjoyable in the cinema seeing it for the first time, I just hope the human story is more gripping in the next one

Godzilla...but he wasn't intentionally "Defending" the city. Godzilla was just doing alpha predator shit and felt like taking out the MUTOs because that's what alpha predators do.

If someone is getting attacked by a gazelle, and the lion comes in and kills the gazelle, it is not accurate to say the lion was actively defending the person...he just felt like having gazelle.
