Christopher Nolan Casts BLACKkKLANSMAN Star John David Washington To Lead His New "Event Film"

For the most part, Christopher Nolan's next movie remains shrouded in mystery, but we do know who'll be leading the cast. The Dark Knight director has tapped BlacKkKlansman's John David Washington to star.

We still know next to nothing about Christopher Nolan's next project, but the movie's star has now been revealed. According to Variety, the fan-favorite director has tapped John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman, Ballers) as his lead, although no details on his character have been provided.

The report does give us some small indication of what to expect from the film, however.

Despite previous rumors that the untitled movie would be a romantic thriller in the vein of North by Northwest, the trade's sources reckon it'll actually be "a massive, innovative, action blockbuster, which will again be shown in IMAX."

That still doesn't give us a whole lot to go, of course, but it does sound like Nolan might be working on something closer to Inception than, say, Interstellar or Dunkirk.

At any rate, with the now complete, we should begin to find out more very soon. The untitled Christopher Nolan "event film" is set for release on July 18, 2020.

Awesome and cool actor. Also deserves a shout out for having an awesome beard in Ballers

@SimplyAz - JDW plays the role well, but Ricky Jarrett is one of my least favorite characters on Ballers.

@L0RDbuckethead -

JDW just plays it so well, that it kind of makes you forget how much of a douche Ricky is. WIth a less talented actor playing Ricky it would not have worked out as well

@SimplyAz - Touché.

They just wrote him as such an insufferable asshole.

What’s holding you back if you don’t mind me asking? Not a huge Nolan fan?

@Kyos -

I haven't seen Dunkirk and Interstellar, don't know why. I think I decided to rewatch Inception when I was going to watch Interstellar.

@regularmovieguy - I actually liked every single one of his movies. I didn't love most of them, though. Even the ones I thought were totally made for me like The Prestige and Inception were missing... idk, something. Never really could properly describe quite what it is.

Dunkirk now was the very first Nolan movie that plain didn't interest me more or less from the start. The subject matter, the impressions from the trailers - it all just didn't click with me.

Over time I actually finally developed some sort of interest in the movie just as an experience, but at that point it was mostly out of theaters already and I missed it. Never felt any desire to watch it on the small screen at home since then.

@HeavyMetal4Life -  that's a rather absurd comment considering the huge audiences those filmed gained to go with the critical acclaim. Whether or not you liked it I'm sure you could agree that it's worth people seeing to decide for themselves.

@Kyos - If you like Nolan, you'll like Dunkirk. Ironically, my review for Dunkirk comes tomorrow on my blog (it will be my 800th movie review).

@SimplyAz - Interstellar is personally my favorite of his films. Not his best technically, but such a damn great story on a humanistic level. Watched it again not too long ago and having lost my dad before the rewatch, it just resonates with me even more. Definitely give it a watch.
