David Yates looks to still be hopeful about directing a Doctor Who movie, even though BBC denied recently that a movie was moving forward, after Yates started the whole speculation. Last time the director spoke about the movie he wants to do, he said that it would have nothing to do with the continuity that the show is currently following, but instead, would be something completely new.

David Yates on the status of his Doctor Who Movie.

"I can't really talk about that because its such a long way away," Yates told MTV News. "We're principally looking for a writer, and we'll start with that. Everything has to start with a great script, so that's more important than [casting]."

"I've lived with pressure for so long. What's pressure? I don't know anymore! It's fine, it's good," he said, looking only at the positives. "It's such a wonderful character and such a wonderful world. It's exciting."

"It's a long journey and we're going to take our time with it," said Yates. "Right now I'm looking forward to a vacation, frankly!"

I am for one against the idea of this movie, because the whole new start thing.
But for other hand, it would be good having this movie, Doctor Who would get more famous, and we may have it airing in countries where it was never aired, like here on Brazil.

I would prefer a movie with David Tennant, Matt Smith or Paul McGann as the doctor.

@ Lucaxmen- Even if the movie does well, Its going to be so different from the tv series that people will still have trouble getting up to speed. Not to mention the "but i thought 'so-and-so' was playing the doctor, Who is this Matt Smith guy? He's different! I don't like change!" It's not going to work.

Imnotahero has a good point, the discontiunity between a film and the TV series with split the audience, especially if Yates decides not to respect the cannon. It already happened in the 60's with those god-awful Peter Cushin 'Doctor Who' films. Ranther than spending a lot of time trying to expalin the backstory (Timelords, Gallifrey, time travel, etc.) they made the good Doctor HUMAN and INVENTOR of the TARDIS! Even though the two films release were LOOSELY based on two episodes from the television show, the producers thumbed their noses at a lot more of the established cannon, confusing the #@$! out of a lot of movie-goers and fans of the TV shoe who were expecting continuity!

...and I say James Nesbitt for the movie Doctor (if he isn't nominated for Matt Smith's replacement)!

hey, heres a question

Why isnt Matt Smith on that poll?

I know its gonna be some [frick]ing pile of shit reboot movie that has nothing to do with the tv series but still none of those actors would be any good. Particularly Ewan, who said he has no interest in the show or the role

@hush
Damn right!

@MovieTheatreLad
No, unfortunately the final incarnation will be so young, baby will be his everyday language lol

@loganoneil

damn right. They dont even need to explain his backstory in great detail anyway. Was his backstory explained in the first episode back in 1963 or even 2005, no it was slowly explained. A movie can bring back some mystery to the character for potential new viewers

...and I say for a movie, #@$! splitting away from the series! The ONLY idea that makes ANY sense is two words - 'TIME WAR!!!!' Get Paul McGann to reprise the role and give him a PROPER shot a doing his Doctor up right - a 2-hour movie and a handful of audio-dramas just doesn't do his incarnation justice!

@dancingmonkey08- I totally want to see a "The adventures of Stormageddon and Baby Doctor" movie now.

Let him waste his time and money! Why hire a writer, director, producer etc. for a film that the BBC aren't prepared to give the rights away for - its just fooling around. It won't get made - he's basically embarking on a high profile, high cost fanboy project. Enjoy.
