Duncan Jones Reveals That He'll Direct A 2000 AD Movie, And ROGUE TROOPER Is A Very Safe Bet

The other night, Duncan Jones (Moon, Warcraft, Mute) announced that his next project will be "a pretty special" comic book movie, and now the director has (all but) revealed that it'll be Rogue Trooper...

After revealing that his next project would be a comic book movie this past Friday, Duncan Jones has now shared a huge hint... actually, scratch that - he's pretty much confirmed that it'll be an adaptation of 2000 AD character Rogue Trooper!

The Warcraft director shared the following video to Twitter, and it begins with a little poem that lists off several 2000 AD characters such as Slaine, Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd, before Jones removes his hat to reveal that he's now sporting Rogue's signature Mohawk.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Rogue is a "G.I." (Genetic Infantryman) who is genetically engineered to be immune to almost all known toxins. He roams the wasteland in search of the Traitor General accompanied by a helmet, gun and backpack that contain the personalities of his fallen comrades.

We have no idea how far along this Rogue Trooper adap is, but we're sure to find out more in the buildup to SDCC next week.

Well okay then. It’s not very often a comic adaptation is announced where I am completely unaware.of the source material. But cool I guess. I’ll watch.

The Rogue Trooper video game was good and personally I'm happy to see Duncan Jones isn't making one of the big two comic book companies properties, because it is high time more of the lesser known comic book companies get to have a movie come out.

Not familiar with the series, but am a big fan of Jones.

I know he had a couple of clunkers lately, but he is a very good director and sci fi mind.

@Menks123 - Dude has made four movies. He has had a couple of clunkers, meaning Warcraft and mute? So basically you're just a fan of Moon?

Menks123 - 7/15/2018, 8:31 PM
@KingGrimlock - I am a fan of all 4 of his films, actually. When I say clunker, I mean critically his last two weren't up to par with Moon and Source Code.

This is great news. 2000 AD has the best expanded universe after Marvel and DC. I'd especially like to see ABC Warriors and MACH One movies.

Man how great it is to have another odd and rare character to have his own film, i love me Marvel and DC but it is quite refreshing for this to happen, awesome. I remember playing the videogame it was really fun, i'll keep an eye on this for sure, great to have Duncan behind it too.

Duncan Jones’ filmography:

Moon - “Oh wow! Bowie’s kid can direct!”
Source Code - “Huh, not a bad thriller. I’d definitely watch this on FX on a Sunday afternoon.”
Warcraft - “Okay… ummm, what happened?”
Mute - “I’m glad I didn’t have to pay a movie theater money to watch this.”

Oh my bloody good gosh yes!!! 2000AD comics had HUGE characters alongside Judge Dredd! Do Rogue Trooper first, then Strontium Dog, then Slaine and then ABC Warriors/Ro-Busters!
