Although Dune: Part 2 officially wrapped principal photography last month, we're still finding out about new additions to the cast.
THR (via SFFGazette.com) is reporting that Tim Blake Nelson (HBO's Watchmen, Cabinet of Curiosities) will appear in Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi sequel in an undisclosed role.
No details on Nelson's character were provided, but since only one principal character from Frank Herbert's novel has yet to be cast, we'd say there's a decent chance he's playing Count Hasimir Fenring, the Mentat husband of Lady Margot Fenring, who will be played by Lea Seydoux.
Nelson debuted as Doctor Samuel Sterns in The Incredible Hulk, and we recently learned that he's set to reprise the role for the upcoming Captain America: New World Order, with The Leader set as one of the sequel's main antagonists.
Dune: Part 2's other new cast additions include Austin Butler as Feyd Rautha, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, the legendary Christopher Walken as The Emperor, and Lea Seydoux as Lady Margot Fenring. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Josh Brolin, and Dave Bautista will reprise their roles from the first film.
The synopsis reads: “Part Two will focus on Paul assembling a massive army of Fremen to combat the ruthless Harkonnen, as he essentially becomes a mythical messiah figure to the inhabitants of Arrakis.”
Dune: Part Two was recently pushed back from October 20, 2023 to November 17, 2023.
