The already impressive cast of Denis Villeneuve's highly-anticipated adaptation of Dune has gained another very exciting addition, as the legendary Charlotte Rampling (Angel Heart, 45, Red Sparrow) has signed on to play the duplicitous Reverend Mother Mohiam.

In Frank Herbert's novels, The Reverend Mother is a Bene Gesserit "witch" with the power of foresight. THR's report describes this big-screen take on the character as "the emperor’s truthsayer, a person who can divine intentions, suss out lies and manipulate people's emotional states." Rampling joins previously announced cast members Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista and Stellan Skarsgard.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Dune follows the Atreides family as they relocate to the desolate planet of Arrakis to assume control of the production of the most valuable resource in the galaxy, the Spice Melange. Unfortunately, an act of treachery soon makes an outcast of The Duke Atreides' youngest son Paul, and he must accept his destiny as a powerful prophet of the Arrakis natives known as The Fremen.

There have been several different adaptions of Dune over the years, the most famous - or infamous, depending on your perspective - is David Lynch's ambitious, but flawed 1984 movie starring Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Kyle MacLachlan. This latest take will be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

I could never really get into the first movie. I tried but it just seemed odd for some reason. I liked a lot of the aspects to it, not the whole product. Maybe I have a deep rooted bias against worms?

Whoever is the casting director should win an academy award just for the cast! I expect this to be epic!

This is shaping up to be THE film for whatever year it is released and I feel has a genuine shot of being the next TLOTR in regards to recognition.

I may be one of the few that love the original Dune . Yes...never read any of the books...so I am bias. Did watch the mini series which was pretty good itself...but with this director at the helm....hopes he blows it out of the sand !
