DUNE: PART TWO Stills Head Back To Arrakis For First Look At Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, And More

After CinemaCon attendees were treated to the first teaser trailer for Dune: Part Two earlier this week, we finally have some new stills from the movie showcasing both its new and returning characters.

Vanity Fair (via SFFGazette.com) has shared a first look and details for Dune: Part Two, arguably one of the most highly anticipated sequels of all time after that phenomenal first chapter.

However, "sequel" might be a poor choice of words.

According to director Denis Villeneuve, if we're looking for clues about where the story begins in this follow-up, we need only look at 2021's Dune. "It’s important—it’s not a sequel, it’s a second part. There’s a difference," he says. "I wanted the movie to really open just where we left the characters. There’s no time jump. I wanted dramatic continuity with part one."

You'll need to visit Vanity Fair's website to check out the full gallery of stills from Dune: Part Two, but the site has shared some fresh character names and details. Among them is the fact Florence Pugh will play Princess Irulan, the daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV (Christopher Walken).

Austin Butler is the lethal Harkonnen prince Feyd-Rautha, and Villeneuve says the actor has "brought to the screen something that would be a cross between a psychotic, sociopath serial killer and Mick Jagger."

Léa Seydoux plays a member of the Bene Gesserit called Lady Margot, and is another newly created character for this movie.

With any luck, a trailer for Dune: Part Two will drop imminently. In the meantime, you can learn more about each of the movie's leads in the following Tweets shared by @VanityFair

Dune: Part Two is set to be released in theaters on November 3.

Surprising there will be no time jump at the start. I assumed they’d start at the big time jump in the book.

@MrDandy - I never read the books so I don't know what to expect. But I'm assuming that image of Josh Brolin must be from the big time jump then? The last time we saw him he had short hair.

@MrDandy - They'll probably start with Lady Jessica's Reverend Mother ritual. It would be impossible to explain the daughter without it.

@MrDandy -
They go directly to Seitch Tabr and a bunch of stuff happens before any time jump. Introduction to the Seitch, Jessica becoming Reverend Mother etc. They can easily pick up where they left off and have about 20 minutes of movie time devoted to that.

@MrDandy - I feel like they might have skipped over it already, and it might not fit at all with the opening of Part 2, but I would have loved to see that scene from the book where Paul sheds a tear or two about having to kill Jamis and the other Fremen are amazed that he would waste his own body's water on an enemy. Probably not the direction they're going, but it'd be so great to see.

Friggen loved the first one. Was such a GOOOOOD movie and the cinematography was beautiful. The first movie didnt have as much action as i thought but it was suspensful and well developed and the fact he says this one is going to be "a war like" second part has me like:

@MotherGooseUPus - It was beautiful. I hope after the second one releases they revisit them and do a large supercut adding back in some of the deleted scenes more exposition and make it feel like one movie instead of 2 seperate parts.

Not to be that guy, but I'm going to be. Lady Margot (Fenring) is an existing character from the books, though very minor. She's the Bene Gesserit wife of Count Hasimir Fenring.

@PutinsGooch -

This is a relevant distinction

Technically,
Lady Margot Fenring DOES exist in Frank Herbert's text

!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!!

She is mentioned TWICE

On PG 116 (Kindle Edition), her 'character' is introduced "off-screen", and doesn't actually come "on-screen" until PG. 52, as a seductress to Feyd

As you mentioned Herbert's inclusion of her 'character', is SO 'minor', that expanding her 'character' requires the realization of a 'character'

No need to argue semantics

HOWEVER

I will say,
what I enjoy from Herbert's writings is how he dramatizes the ideas 💡 that he was working out as Essayist

I'm curious to see how Villeneuve's team handles the topics, themes, and critiques regarding femininity, power structures, aristocracies, and eugenics (amongst the plethora of concepts, that Herbert tackles throughout the span of his Opus)
