Even though the movie hasn't actually started shooting yet, Lionsgate have managed to get a pic of the actress in character on the cover of this month's Entertainment Weekly. What do you think Hunger Games fans, does she look the part? The film is based on the hugely popular novel by Suzanne Collins. I haven't read it myself(sounded a bit too "American Battle Royale" for me") but by all accounts it's a very good read. For those unfamiliar with the story, here is a synopsis..

In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

Hopefully this turns out well, Lawrence was really good in winter bones so they have good actress as the lead. Rest of the cast decent hope it turns out well. Hope they don't dumb down the violence.

After seeing that picture I think Jennifer Lawrence not only has the look for Lara Croft but the girl can also act. She has my vote to play Lara Croft.

Thought this was a post about Hunger Games and not Tomb Raider?

@claybo4131

but the director/producers fault for making her look more like Tomb Raider instead of Katniss.

this is what Katniss look like. that Katniss for the movie is Lara Croft LOL.

good lord, here comes the complaining about it being PG-13. The series is written for TEENS, you morons. It just means the deaths won't be graphic. "I don't know how its going to work!" - You're right, nobody has ever been killed on TV or in PG films before. Seriously, how embarassing is it to look that ignorant?
jazzman
jazzman - 5/18/2011, 1:50 PM
@P862010

yeah but Jennifer had a spray tan :P

OH MY GOD.
Jennifer Lawrence looks even more beautiful as a brunette! :O seriously, whoever doubted she couldn't play Katniss because of her looks ... EAT YOUR HEART OUT.

Lara Croft next <3

She looks good, as usual.
And about the Tomb Raider thing...she does look the part but Olivia Wilde would own.

Strange....looks EXACTLY like I imagined her. Wondering if I caught a sketch or a concept picture before I read the books or something. Hmmm...

Olive skin is what I heard she looks like... So why is a caucasian with a mediocre tan cast? Heh, hollywood...
JoshJones
JoshJones - 5/18/2011, 2:30 PM
So what is this? Like an Americanized Battle Royale?
jazzman
jazzman - 5/18/2011, 2:42 PM
@Jer3miah

I think this is consequentially different from Battle royal, even though it shares the same basic premise of forced combat amongst adolescents. Less shock value (or at least different). Plays out much differently too. The kids don't really know each other, its entertainment not military research, but mostly its the characters that make it really different. Its good. She looks fine for the role.
Spectre94
Spectre94 - 5/18/2011, 3:38 PM
She looks the part. And I like how she is skinny also, because that is a major part of her character in the books because her people are basically starving to death

mwmcintyre - 5/18/2011, 3:39 PM
You can get away with a lot under PG-13 these days. Casino Royale was PG-13 and they had a scene where a naked James Bond was being tortured by getting his nuts whacked. It only goes up to R now when you have real nudity and/or very graphic sex scenes.
VanCityKid

Looks better than I thought it would
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 5/18/2011, 3:52 PM

@Jer3miah Olive skinned is just a fancy word for 'tanned' - Jessica Alba is olive skinned and fro mthat picture, Jen-Law is rocking a pretty nice Alba-tone.
jazzman
jazzman - 5/18/2011, 4:03 PM
@CherryBomb

Jessica Alba is natural olive skinned cause of her latino background not spray tan needed :P

@mwmcintyre

yes maybe thats true but not everything needs to be PG-13.
i mean look what they want to do with Akira they want to make it PG-13 WTF.
valeriesghost
valeriesghost - 5/18/2011, 4:59 PM
I really enjoyed the books, and I think this is a good casting choice.

Although I believe if Natalie Portman was younger she would have been perfect.

@MovieTheaterLad: Yeah, I guess that's very true. Half the time Indians from India are documented on file as Asian, so yeah. I understand what you mean.

@jazzman and CherryBomb: Yeah, that I can see. I think they should have went with someone a bit more ethnic, but what can I do? lol
