Frank Miller's Ronin Going 3D?

SHH interviews Sylvain White (The Losers):

"It's still being developed. I just got a new draft a week ago. It's looking really good and promising. I hope it gets to go... [Mine is] a big-budget, big blockbuster take on it. I'd love to do it in 3D. I think it'd be ridiculous and amazing."

"I think it'd make a brilliant video game as well, something along the lines of Assassin's Creed but from a first-person perspective. I think it's just a great property and a great concept. It's got so many ideas in it in terms of commentary and philosophy. Frank Miller is a genius when it comes to that. It took so long because the source material is so complex. It's very difficult, and it's not linear, and it doesn't really fit into a film format off the bat...but I think with Ronin we need a little bit of streamlining, otherwise it's too esoteric. It's something that needs to be done right, and it hasn't really been done right."

White says he doesn't care about getting a "comic book movie guy" label:

"The fortunate thing is that Ronin is some Frank's earlier work. What's great and what for me works in the graphic novel, aesthetically-speaking, is the design of Aquarius... the design of New York. So I would pay homage to him more in the production design versus the actual frames. The frames in Ronin are some beautiful frames, and some I would go with, but what's beautiful to me about 'Ronin' is the production design and the character design and the colors that are used. What they want to see is that you stayed true to the story, true to the characters and true to the design."

Ronin is a comic book released in 1983 and 1984 by DC Comics, it blends feudal Japan with a darkly futuristic, cyberpunk New York city, telling the story of a reincarnated Ronin and his final showdown with the soul of the man who killed his master.

The Losers is slated for a April 9th 2010 release.

Man, ronin is great, I'm so glad this is happening. I had pretty much lost hope in this project and just accepted that samurai jack was the closest thing I was going to ever see of ronin on the screen.

This could be very nice indeed.

Keep Miller away from the director's chair, script writing, and anything but an advisory role.

I'll hold off weighing in on the 3-D aspect until after I see Avatar. That will set my expectations for how far the technology has come.

why all the complaining about 3D??? if you don't want to watch it in 3D...THEN DON'T! there has not been a movie lately to come out that you didn't have the choice. you can always still watch them normally if 3D is not your thing. i swear people just complain for the sake of complaining

TheTopherTap - 9/14/2009, 1:43 PM
Corndog I don't think some people know that you can watch it normal and it will be fine. If you couldn't though then I would completely agree, this series is awesome and I can't wait for it. Pretty much a live action samurai jack, awesome!

@ necro

actually, they give them to you in wrapped, unopened plastic, and you keep them after the movie. but nice try, bud.

i don't think its the greatest thing either, but i don't complain when i hear a movie is being made for 3D. i couldn't care less, actually because it effects nothing.

@ LEEE777 Hope your right! But even if the next Wolverine is as good as Dark Knight I don't think Fox should be forgiven for some of the stuff they've made.

TopherTap Samurai Jack was good, I'll give you that, but Ronin is so much better on so many levels. I just hope frank stays away from the director's chair because I was less than thrilled with the spirit. I mean, it wasn't terrible, it was corny on purpose because that's what the spirit is, but it felt flat and the visuals were repetitive.
