GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE Footage Leaks Online And One Scene Is Already Dividing MonsterVerse Fans

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hit theaters overseas earlier this week and entire scenes from the movie have since found their way online. However, there's one bonkers moment which is splitting opinions.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire may have already begun playing in North American theaters by the time you read this, but it started rolling out internationally a couple of days ago.

That means spoilers have already begun finding their way online and, perhaps most surprisingly, some pretty lengthy clips as well! Most are of the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel's monster battles, with some running upwards of 2 minutes...and in shockingly good quality.

Warner Bros. and Legendary are moving fast to remove them, though they're currently pretty easy to find on social media platforms like X, Reddit, and TikTok (while we won't be sharing any footage here, trust us when we say they're not exactly hidden).

However, there's one moment, in particular, which is already generating discussion and is likely to split opinions in a big way this Easter weekend.

SPOILER WARNING: As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, at some point in the movie, it appears Godzilla and Kong come to blows when the former gets the wrong end of the stick and attacks his friend-turned-foe. During the fight (which takes place in Egypt), Godzilla hits Kong with a suplex. Yes, the wrestling move.

How is it possible with those tiny arms? Your guess is as good as ours!

While some of the older Godzilla movies have featured this level of cheesiness - typically when these Titans were portrayed by men in rubber suits - a lot of kaiju fans feel this is a step too far. Others, meanwhile, have praised filmmaker Adam Wingard for embracing the ridiculousness of the MonsterVerse...even if it didn't exactly start off that way in 2014's Godzilla

As we write this, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has a solid 61% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and that's likely Fresh enough to ensure plenty of people head out to watch the movie in theaters this weekend, regardless of these leaks.

The epic battle continues!  Legendary Pictures' cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of 'Godzilla vs. Kong' with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own. 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire stars returning Godzilla vs. Kong actors Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle alongside Dan Stevens (Legion), Alex Ferns (The Batman), and Fala Chen (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

The screenplay is by Terry Rossio (Godzilla vs. Kong) and Simon Barrett (You’re Next) and Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), from a story by Rossio & Wingard & Barrett, based on the character "Godzilla" owned and created by TOHO Co., Ltd.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire rampages into theaters on March 29.

@Origame @JobinJ - yup. I would really love to see how Toho Studios would make a kong/godzilla movie. 1962 when Toho did kong v god… i bet they would make a great [frick]in film. I would pay to that.

@BeNice123 - yeah, I am bummed they turned them into superheros. Imagine a GvKK movie in the same light as Godzilla Minus One. Horror, two giant monsters destroying, fighting, killing.

Monsterverse Kong is literally a hairy giant man, he can literally talk (sign language). I hate what they have done to him. He is supposed to be a big scary monster.

Kong no sold it, just like Ultimate Warrior lol. I actually didn't hate this movie, and I'd rank it third behind Godzilla 2014 and Skull Island. At least they didn't bother to focus as much time on the humans. The pace was good, the other Godzilla had some really cool design choices, and baby kong was pretty cool lol. If you're a fan, you'll like it

Godzilla suplex Kong? Yeah I won't be paying to see this movie, this is bound to be one of many crappy scenes.

Yeah , that’s a bit much for me too lol…

If it was Kong suplexing Godzilla then I could buy it though I guess it depends on the type of Suplex it is…

Is it Brock Lesnar Suplex City or Kurt Angle release German which I could see The Big G doing but Vertical Suplex , hell no haha!!.

Didn’t we just see Rogue suplex a sentinel?
I think this movie/universe has gotten silly, but why this is so ludicrous to fans in particular is wonky.

@TheVisionary25 - Alright, I typed "godzilla suplex kong" into Google and saw right there, quick clip. How Godzilla gets Kong into position to do the suplex adds up - he's raising him up a structure, so fitting into his arms does work right. But still, seeing the two of them in a full two-bodies-upright suplex... yeah, it's certainly a sight. I get the hooplah.

What a stupid article.

“a lot of kaiju fans feel this is a step too far. Others, meanwhile, have praised filmmaker Adam Wingard for embracing the ridiculousness of the MonsterVerse”

What’s your source? What was the sample population? Did you just see a few people comment on this and decide that the entire monsterverse fanbase was divided?

Go away Josh.

Just came back from the theater.
To give this some context, and I don't think it is something that wasn't already spoiled in the trailers, Godzilla's body goes through a change, and the suplex scene happens after that change.
But let's be real here, nobody is flipping over this.
The plot is stupid, Godzilla is just there for the sake of being there, and it would work better as a no dialogue monster movie than what we got here.
All that said... I had fun watching it.

At some point franchises like this become a parody of themselves. They start off serious and with good stories and characters and then go completely off the rails as soon as more sequels are made. It happened to The Fast and The Furious, Transformers, Resident Evil, Mission Impossible, The MCU, Saw, and so on. After awhile they just become over the top and poorly written popcorn films.
