WandaVision director Matt Shakman is a very busy man, and along with Marvel Studios' upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, he's currently putting the finishing touches to Legendary and Apple TV+'s Godzilla and the Titans (that's the rumoured title for now, anyway) TV series.
Set in the MonsterVerse, the same franchise that includes movies like Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the upcoming Godzilla and Kong, there's a lot of intrigue surrounding this small screen project.
Talking to ComicBook.com (via SFFGazette.com), Shakman confirmed Godzilla will have a noteworthy presence in the show and teased a number of Titans being unleashed.
"Well, Godzilla first and foremost, you know, I still have my old Toho Godzilla toy with the arm that shoots off, the little tongue that comes out when you press the back of its head, from when I was a kid," he responded when asked which of the Titans he was most excited to bring to life on screen. "I used to watch those movies with my dad and I absolutely love them."
"And so just the chance to film scenes where there are hundreds of people running down the street trying to escape from Godzilla. I mean, that's definitely got to check that off the bucket list. That's pretty awesome. So it was fun and, you know, we were creating a lot of cool Titans and monsters, some new, some old. So it's fun. I'm excited."
Shakman's comments that we'll see new and old monsters are definitely interesting, though we're definitely relieved Godzilla is doing more than just lending his name to the series!
While we've already seen the likes of MechGodzilla, King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan on screen in this MonsterVerse, there are plenty of other possibilities for this show, including Gigan, Anguirus, and Destroyah.
It's previously been reported that the show will focus on the aftermath of the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, with one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.
Legendary Television is producing this MonsterVerse TV series that was co-created by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), with the former serving as showrunner. Shakman will direct the first two episodes and serve as an executive producer.
