PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING Trailer Sees John Boyega And His Jaeger Take The Fight To The Monstrous Kaiju

The first trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising made its debut at NYCC, and it's now been released online for you guys to take a look at.

The footage gives us some background on the events the followed the first film's climactic battle via Jake Pentecost's (yes, John Boyega got to keep his accent this time) voiceover, which echoes his father's rousing speech from Del Toro's original. Then, we see some pretty spectacular shots of the next gen Jaegers rushing into battle against some fierce-looking, evolved Kaiju.

If you were a fan of the Pacific Rim, chances are you'll like the look of this sequel. If not... well, it really is just more of the same.

Check it out below, and let us know what you think in the usual place.

Pacific Rim: Uprising also stars Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona, and Charlie Day, and is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2018.

I saw this last night during Blade Runner. Was seriously surprised seeing as how it wasn’t released or shown yet. I think this looks awesome. Less expensive sure; no one gave the first one their hard earned cash. But it also looks more inspired, creative, and fun. Much more anime this time around. I am excite.

@MarsivNayr - Really??? Even MORE excited to watch Blade Runner now.
Did you enjoy 2049 btw?

@JohnMarston220 - dear god in heaven, do you even have to ask? It might be the film of the year for me so far. Definitely requires another watch, which I’ve already planned for this weekend. It’s mesmerizing, and not just visually.

@MarsivNayr - Going around 5, sooooo excited! I've loved everything by Denis Villuneuve so far. Never saw the 1st, so will I have trouble understanding this one?

@JohnMarston220 - oh man everything that man touches is platinum.

Hmmm...I don’t think you’ll have a hard time with it. Of course it helps, but it checks all its corners so to speak. It might be quite interesting for you to go back and watch the original (Final Cut please) afterwards. I think it’ll be fine.

@JohnMarston220 - actually I think you’ll have an even more interesting time with the original after watching 2049. There will be a signicantly different emotional response to the first one, I think; than if you had watched em in order.

This happened to me recently with Split. It was profound.

the first one tried to go with a somewhat realistic feel for these impossible machines, now we've gone full on anime...and I don't have any problem with that

It looks like Fast and Furious with mechs instead of cars.

In other words, a hard pass for me.

Yes! This looks like so much fun! And hell yeah, Boyega rocking the the accent (although I must say it kind of sounded a bit South African at parts).
