I've called District 9 - the 'Alien' of my generation. If that's true - then Avatar is my generation's 'Star Wars.' James Cameron has pulled off his epic masterpiece - and as cocky as he very well may be and as expensive as this movie is (massively half a billion expensive) - everything worked.

I can't deny this movie - for it slayed me. Sam Worthington is now a household name - I knew this would happen since I saw him in Terminator 4 - and I'm happy to see his career play out like it should. The guy is a force to be reckoned with and even when he's acting through his big blue alien form - you can tell right away it's him inside.

The CGI in this movie is the absolute best I've EVER seen in a movie - so I was completely lost in this beautiful world of aliens. The amount of breathtaking scenery of this planet and it's huge array of species blew me away. For a near three hour film - everything flew by and all my senses were rocked. I can't tell you enough how fantastic AVATAR is - if you don't like it - you're a stuck up douche that went into this film with an agenda of mind bullets - ready to blast anything because of close minded stuck uppery.

For a 'rehashed' story, I was certainly moved also. Who cares if there isn't much to it? It was fantastic. The acting - digital acting - were all Academy Award worthy and Zoe Saldana's performance as the blue female alien warrior is the best digital acting job since Andy Serkis was Gollum. Go see this movie now. If you don't appreciate it's amazingness - you're a douchebag. It's that simple.

By the way - I didn't give into this movie's prehype - in fact I made fun of it hard - very hard. But when I finally laid witness to this monster of a movie, I caved. It's amazing.

So if we have a different opinion than you, we're douches. I could say so many things about that...

You said it was amazing, now you're saying if we didn't think the movie is amazing we're douches. So, therefore, if we have a different opinion than you we're douches.

I guess I'm not a douche, because I didn't say it sucked overall. This was a great film. The acting, the CG work, all of it. But I have a problem with that storyline. I don't think it needed to be some deep story that you have to commit your mind to, but something more original would have been nice and just made the film that much more epic...that's all.

What he is saying that if Avatar wasn't your cup of tea, and you have a different opinion to him, your a douche. Possibly one of the silliest comments i have seen on this site..and that in itself is an achievement. Im gonna front page this so everyone can share the laugh.

@Keven

If I don't have the same taste as you and that makes me a douche, that actually makes me feel proud to be a douche, at least I respect the fact that you think this is incredible. Yes this movie is enjoyable, and it is visually stunning, but if it had had a much richer storyline, and it didn't even need that if it hadn't been a lazy mashup and developed some of the underlying themes, it would have been truly mindblowing and the game changer that we were promised. Not only that but it ripped off a lot of movies, from Pocahontas, Princess Monoke, Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, Ferngully, Matrix, Dances with Wolves, Last Samurai, and it din't hide the fact that it did.

I feel that if they had done Mega-Shark vs Super-Torttoise using this technology you would still consider every single one that thought that the effects were cool but the storyline awful (I'm not saying avatar's story is awful it's just a mediocre enjoyable story), douches.

The fact that almost everyone liked it is cool, just because we don't think it's the masterpiece you think it is, or like it the same exact way you do... makes us all stuck up? Why do I get the feeling you might be a creationist? (you seem to display all the symptoms)

To be honest Keven Cameron did say this was supposed to change the movie franchise. So with that claim, I think some of us are justified to note the mediocre plot.

The movie was good, gorgeous, and fun but it's not the end all be all of movies like Cameron felt. Personally, I think "District 9" was a better film all around.

Keven... district 9 had an amazing concept, the short it was based on was so incredible that Peter Jackson decided to give the director money to make the movie. Have you even seen that short? And dare I say it, even though it had a story that had been used many times before (a human helping aliens against the military), it kept giving it twist after twist and it had depth to many of it's core concepts, if District 9 had been a Hollywood movie, there would have had to be a love story (he'd either have ended with his wife or with a female prawn) as an integral part of the plot and that would have completely ruined it.

You are seriously blind, I don't hate Avatar I think everyone should watch it, but thinking this is the best movie of the decade... seriously? it's not even the best movie of the year.

And I wouldn't mind if Cameron had come up with district 9, although then it would have ended up district cliche, I would have probably seen it too and enjoyed it. And I'm admiting that Cameron did manage to use many cliches and play them just right (most movies do that with one or two), the problem is with so many cliches being used they start to pile up.

The creationists are the crazy americans who believe god created humans and they wan't their children to be taught just that at school they don't accept any other point of view. Search for the church of the flying spaghetti on google.

And you should really go back and watch the movies you talk about...they may be good vs evil but they have distinct differences and takes on the theme, and seriously Robin Hood, Gladiator and Braveheart are really different form one another, it would be much fairer to compare Bloody Valentine and Bloody Valentine 3D.

"Depression"?

I'm not even sh*tting on the movie. I made it obvious that people should go see Avatar. I'm not calling it terrible or garbage or unwatchable, etc. As a movie, it is decent at best. But, as an experience, it is great.
