Variety is reporting that Legendary's upcoming sequel to their surprise 2013 sci-fi hit, Pacific Rim, has found its female lead in newcomer Cailee Spaeny. No further details on her role were provided.

She joins a cast headlined by John Boyega (Star Wars: Episode VIII), who is playing the son of Idris Elba's character, Stacker Pentecoat, from the first film. The sequel will also feature Scott Eastwood (Fast 8) in an undisclosed, but key role. Plot details are unsurprisingly nonexistant, but what we do know is that former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight is helming the feature with Academy Award-nominee Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) on-board as a producer.

Spaeny is relatively new on the acting scene and her only two major film credits are two 2016 indie releases, Counting to 1000 and The Shoes. She doesn't have any other projects lined up just yet, so she'll tackle Pacific Rim 2 next, which is set to kick off production this November in Australia, with some portions also expected to be filmed in China.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

The first one was a fun popcorn flick and I expect the same from the second. So I am looking forward to sitting back grabbing a fist full of corn and just mindlessly enjoying myself for 2 hours.

Really liking me some Boyega. Couldn't [frick]ing stand him after Attack the Block, but he won me over with TFA (even if I wasn't wowed by the movie itself).
