OBLIVION: Deleted Scenes & An Alternate Opening

Hit the jump to see two deleted scenes, "Bubbleship Flyby" and "Medkit," from Joseph Kosinski's (TRON: Legacy) sci-fi actioner Oblivion. Along with an alternate opening scene, and some more concept art.

Overall, I found Oblivion to be quite enjoyable. Yes, the film seems to borrow it's best twist and turns from the Wachowskis' The Matrix and Duncan Jones' Moon. So, not original, but the execution is quite good.

In the second clip below, you will see the first introduction of the advanced medical supply kit. You can also see concept art of that kit below as well, created by Jim Martin. In the deleted scene, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) has a little boo-boo from an encounter with the alien invaders known as Scavengers ("Scavs"). His redheaded vixen/lover, Victoria "Vika" Olsen (Andrea Riseborough), swoops in like Florence Nightingale, and treats his wound as though she has had some medical training.

Tom Cruise stars in OBLIVION, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one mans confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jacks mission is nearly complete. Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

OBLIVION was directed by Joseph Kosinski, from a screenplay written by Karl Gajdusek and Michael deBruyn. The cast includes: Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo. Now available on DVD & Blu-ray.

I enjoyed Oblivion. I know people want to call it a rip off but it is sci-fi at it's purist. I think this movie would be hailed as being great if some other actor was the lead. It's just silly fanboy hate of Tom Cruise. That said, the ending was a cop out and took away considerably from a good film.

BTW, Moon isn't the first to use that reveal. The original Twilight Zone and the Outer Limits has had similar reveals. I love Moon but let's not act like it broke new ground.

Um.....Looks like most of the space equipment Charlton Heston carried around in the first half hour of the original Planet of the Apes.
