Ridley Scott Reveals The Surprising ALIEN Themed Title Of PROMETHEUS 2

Following the recent reveal that Sir Ridley Scott may be working on as many as three Prometheus sequels, the director has now revealed the title of the first of those, and it definitely won't be what you're expecting. Could this lead to Alien 5 being scrapped though?

In hindsight, it may have been a little foolish to assume that the Prometheus sequel would simply be titled Prometheus 2. After all, the ship that the first movie was at least in part named after was destroyed in the last instalment, so that makes this very different official title at least somewhat expected. However, what is a surprise is the fact that it's going to have "Alien" in there! "Actually, it’s going to be called Alien: Paradise Lost, so Prometheus 2 isn’t what it’s really going to be," Ridley Scott confirmed in an interview with HeyUGuys today. "You know the poem? I doubt you’ve ever been through it, have you? The poem’s a book, Paradise Lost! It sounds intellectual, but there’s a similarity to it, and that’s where it stops." Where this leaves Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 remains to be seen, but it could be that that project is put aside for this new trilogy. Thoughts?

Yes please, Alien 5 it's just Blomhack fan-fiction, Alien 3 -Assembly Cut- it's a masterpiece and should remain as canon.

I really can't wait for this. With all the "connected universe" crazes I think this has potential to redefine a franchise and genre

With how the Martian turned out i know that Scott is still a good director. His movies just had really shitty scripts. Don't get lindelof back for this one and maybe i'll be looking forward to it. Get Goddard back, he'd write a great Alien movie.

While the title may take me a while to get used to, I have faith in Scott, but I could totally see him changing the title over and over again. Similar to how he kept changing his ideas for Prometheus during production.

Just make everything connect the way it's supposed to, Ridley!

Woah, out of nowhere!! So is it gonna be more of a Alien movie this time around? This one reached a new level of my interest now, for sure.

I'd rather have a new Alien movie by Scott rather then Blomkamp anyway.

Huh, curious.

The title of Paradise Lost is fitting though due to the supposed subject matter of the sequel.

This could mean the Deacon gets a larger part than intended originally as it develops into the more xenomorph look.

I don't think Ridley Scott has ever made a terrible movie because of his direction. If a movie was bad it wa dish ally because of the script he had. Last year he had Exodus which was ruthlessly bashed for its casting decisions and The Counselor's script was written by a novelist, not a script writer. Prometheus, while I think is an amazing film about science fiction and discovery, obviously didn't connect with everyone and that can mostly be blamed on Lindelof.

Well I for one have mixed feelings about Ridley Scott's work.
I loved Alien, Aliens (my favorite), Aliens 3 was a bit disappointing and Aliens resurrection was OK but fair from as good as my favorite. Then the Prometheus movie was ok, but so much build up to the movie before hand and the movie was just ok, nothing special beyond this franchise. Hope this movie brings back the Sci-Fi and Horror that was Aline and Aliens.

I think it was William Butler Yeats who wrote: "Don't just use the famous name of a poem as a subtitle to your shitty film, you snobby wanker."

If it really is a direct sequel, Epimethius is the obvious title. "Forethought" and "Afterthought". But clearly he's just trying to promise more of what he doesn't really want to deliver. I don't blame him for not wanting to just do more Alien movies, but there is a tremendous glut of "untold preludes" and "the story before the story" garbage right now. It's worse than the reboots to me. I don't mind a movie trying to recapture the spirit of an older one, but the constant teasing and never delivering of these prequels is grade A shit.

I believe the plural of Prometheus is Promethii or Promethepodes. :)

@Jollem - The problem for me wasn't that the story was confusing or that the continuity didn't add up, or even the bungles "lifecycle" of the black goo.

It was all character based. The original Alien wasn't just a brilliant accomplishment of design, it was revolutionary for portraying a crew of space farers as totally human and relatable. They argue about pay, sex, corporate interests and generally come off as blue collar. This makes something bold and foreign, like space travel, seem ordinary and normal for the worlds they operate in.
Most importantly their motivations make sense.

Prometheus meanwhile has none of that. The character don't behave like scientists, or even human beings. The guy mapping the ship manages to get lost, the cryptozoologist oscillates between being terrified of everything to trying to pet an alien vagina snake. The captain doesn't care that people are stranded (he even turns off communication) And no one communicates what they've seen to each other.

SO no, the problem isn't the "unresolved mysteries" or "not getting to understand what the Engineers want" - those are easily and enjoyibly solved by an attentive viewer.
The problem is that there are no relatable "human beings" to care about or root for.

If you need special videos to explain (apologize) for all the stupid shit in the film, the film has failed.

Precisely right. That's why I didn't understand people gushing about that Man of Steel video showing the visual overlap between Clark's birth and him killing Zodd, as if it was somehow meaningful or powerful. But what was the thematic, narrative, or emotional meaning of it? Still don't know, but it sure looked artistic, didn't it?

I'm not as critical of Prometheus as you are. It's not a good movie, but it's damn near "The Room" level of entertaining to watch how stupid the characters are. Nobody keeps their damn helmet on. The guy that maps the cave is the one that gets inexplicably lost in it. Everyone is an idiot and no one does the basic level of rational behavior that you'd expect from an explorer, or even a sentient human being, actually. The philosophy is garbage, as well. But as a cartoonish shallow space horror movie, it's pretty, and moody, and dumb. And if that's all you're looking for, then it's not bad.

Or maybe I am as critical as you. That certainly sounded a lot more negative than I expected it to.

Scott's not a marketer. It would be sooo confusing to audiences if this were called Alien: Paradise.
