SNOW PIERCER Picked Up By The Weinstein Company
The Weinstein Company will now distribute Boon Joon-ho's English directorial debut Snow Piercer, which is based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige. The action thriller stars Chris Evans (Marvel's The Avengers), and a Summer 2013 release is likely.
Deadline report that The Weinstein Company have picked up the distribution rights to the upcoming action thriller Snow Piercer, which is the English-language debut of director Boon Joon-ho, from South Korea's CJ Entertainment. The deal was made at this year's American Film Market, and Weinstein will distribute the movie in North America, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and the UK. Based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, Snow Piercer stars Chris Evans, Ed Harris, Octavia Spencer, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Alison Pill and Song-Kang-ho. There is currently no release date set for the film, but sources tell Deadline that a wide release in Summer 2013 is likely. Below is a plot summary for Snow Piercer's story:
Snow Piercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snow Piercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
