Anton Yelchin On Benicio Del Toro's Role In Star Trek Sequel

While promoting his new film Like Crazy, Anton Yelchin - who plays 'Chekhov' in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek - spoke with Orlando Sentinel about what he doesn't know about the sequel, among which is who Savages' Benicio del Toro will be playing (recent reports suggest that del Toro has been offered the villain role in the film). Yelchin says that, while he doesn't have any idea who del Toro is playing, it would be an honor for him to be on the same set with the actor. Yelchin also talks briefly about the secrecy behind the project, saying that the producers tend to 'keep us in the dark' until the last minute.

On Benicio del Toro's possible role in Star Trek 2...
I have no idea what Benicio Del Toro is playing. I read online, like everybody else, that he’s been having conversations with J.J. No idea what level that’s at. J.J. won’t even tell him what role it would be. That’s J.J.!

I would be honored to be on the same set with Benicio del Toro in ANY role. If that works out, it’ll be great.

On the secrecy behind the much anticipated sequel...
I’m stoked. They always keep us in the dark, sorta till the last minute. What’s happening, who’ll be in it and what the film will be like. It’s good to know that we’re making it and that J.J.’s directing it, is all I can say.

Be sure to say who you think del Toro could be playing in the comments below. Also, to check out the full interview (in which Yelchin talks about his Trek accent), click the link.

J.J. Abrams' untitled Star Trek sequel will reportedly be released in the summer of 2013.

As long as it's a well written part in a well written movie, I don't care who he's playing. Del Toro's a fine actor.

I can't wait to see the whole cast again. It doesn't really matter to me who Benicio plays.
