Last week we had word from insiders that Benicio Del Toro was the favorite to play the villain in JJ Abrams
Star Trek sequel. In the following interview with MTV the director not only confirms his interest in nabbing the versatile actor for a role, but says negotiations..sorry, discussions are already underway..
"Well, we're just in negotiations, we're in discussions. It's not even negotiations — just in discussion. But I would love to work with him. I've wanted to work with him for years, and this felt like a good opportunity."
But assuming Del Toro does sign up, who will he be playing? It's likely that he will be the villain of the piece of course, but which villain? Abrams has already said that Trek favorite Khan Noonien Singh is very unlikely. Rumor suggested a Klingon last week too, maybe a human this time? Unfortunately Abrams remains tight lipped but suggests it won't be too long before all is revealed..
"It's too early to talk about what the role is, but he's such an amazing actor. He's so versatile. He could sort of do anything. Except play Uhura, I wouldn't buy that."
"As soon as we know who it's going to be—and I'd love it to be him—that'll be public knowledge,"
