JJ Abrams ("Mission: Impossible III") was kind enough to have me on board another Star Trek. It was not too dissimilar to the first experience, other than I was too busy to be cast as an Alien this time. Then again, I did go down with the ship in the previous one.

This first round of images are some of the development of the Klingons. This was a very important assignment for me because I knew how important it was to the fans of the franchise. It was a delicate balance of respecting the established looks from previous incarnations yet delivering something appropriate for JJ's film. - Neville Page

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organisation has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and directed/produced by J.J. Abrams. Returning for the sequel are Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zoë Saldana, and Anton Yelchin. They are joined by new cast members Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

The designs they used were solid n the film was pretty cool n Cummberbatch too, just wish they cast someone foreign given who he was playing...

Best movie of the summer by far. The haters are all probably MoS fanboys. Now THAT movie has plenty to bitch about, but whatever, to each his own...

The designs would be awesome for a complete Trek reboot or alternate universe. But they are also further evidence of JJ wanting to change things that shouldn't change in an alternate timeline.

I hope you all are ready to see an Ewok cast as Chewbacca in Episode VII.

These designs look so much better. They have a raw, bestial look about them. Would've given the Klingons a scarier, more intimidating look.

I'm on google chrome and these embedded YouTube videos just automatically plays when I load the pages. It's [frick]ing annoying - Any way to disable that?

Okay... im not a fan of JJ Abrams rebooting a franchise thats had nearly half a century of stories.. but what on gods earth would alter the timeline to have Klingons looking like those? Like seriously, if anything, they should look like the kligons from TES since thats what Spock and Kirk originally saw, not some weird ass designs we see here. Change for change sake is cheapening. Although, i do dig that artwork with the 4 heads on the same shot.

I loved Into Darkness (it's very close between it and MoS for my favorite movie this summer, with IM 3 just a little bit behind.) But, that being said, I don't like some things that Abrams has changed that canNOT be explained by a change in the timeline. The way shields work, the way phasers work (they basically look the same as lasers from any science fiction movie), the way the transporters work (Spock brings back a way of transporting across huge distances, that was supposedly invented by the Scotty in the other timeline, that is NEVER seen in the regular timeline, including Next Generation), and now, the way Klingons look. Oh, and somehow changing the timeline changed Chekov's hair from straight to curly, LOL. They should've either gone with the classic look for the Klingons, or the old TV look, but not anything else. Like I said, I loved both movies and I'm NOT a whiny fanboy, so I can live with the changes, but they did still bug me a little bit, and the movies would've been better without them.

The Klingnon look is all relative. In TOS, the klingnons looked mostly like humans with tan skin. In the first Star Trek movie, the designers added ridges and more definition to the head/face. Star Trek: Enterprise tried to explain the differences between TOS and the movies, but it didn't actually make any sense when it came to JJ Abrams' movies because it seemed that all the Klingons in Abrams' movies had ridges. Maybe they'll throw us an easter egg and show us a klingon without the ridges. Who know. Point is, the design of the klingons has been in flux since their original conception. The only thing that hasn't changed about them is their personality which is more important than their looks. IMO, Abrams' klingons looked fine. There uniforms in STID looked very similar to the ones they wore in TOS, and their facial features and behavior was more reminiscent of the old Star Trek movies.

Personally, I liked Into Darkness very much. It was a great movie IMO. However, I do hope the next movie has a little more "science-fictiony" elements in it like the old Treks did.

I think the final design worked out well. This movie was awesome. One of my favorites this year, and one of the most entertaining. If I'm talking strictly blockbusters, Man Of Steel, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Pacific Rim in that order. Movie of the year for me thus far, however, is Fruitvale Station.
