As promised, Disney's Star Wars: Galactic Nights celebration at Hollywood Studios last night provided plenty of exciting details regarding the upcoming Star Wars-themed land, Galaxy's Edge

For starters, the Millennium Falcon ride, which received some concept art earlier this week, will allow visitors to take control of Han Solo's iconic ship. Disney has recreated the hallway of the ship, as well as the cockpit, which visitors will be able to enter on the ride. Additionally, the ride will be split into multiple "turntable rooms" - similar to Epcot's Mission Space - which will allow for more rider capacity (and hopefully shorter lines). As for the ride itself, it will feature multiple missions creating a variety of ride experiences for guests.  According to Disney Imagineer Scott Trowbridge, guests' performance on the ride will actually be tracked and may influence how characters elsewhere in the land react to you. This is easy to imagine in Walt Disney World Resort, as the Orlando park makes use of the MagicBand wristbands to facilitate interactive experiences. Disneyland in California, however, does not yet utilize the MagicBand.

While much of the focus was on the Millennium Falcon ride, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will contain much more as guests travel to the new planet Batuu. Spread across this 14-acre land will be a cantina-style restaurant, shops, character encounters, and another ride that makes guests feel like their inside of the hangar on a Star Destroyer. It was noted by WDI Chris Beatty that marketplaces in Instanbul and Marrakech were used as inspiration in creating the shops found on Batuu. The marketplace will sell in-universe toys and other souvenirs, rather than the Disney collectibles found in other retail locations throughout the parks. Disney is also testing out various themed "Bantha Milk" drinks (aka alcoholic beverages).

Living in New Zealand we have decent tourist attraction rides mostly outside Auckland but we’ll never get this and a lot of us will never get the opportunity to visit either. Hopefully my kids will get to go sometime in their life and enjoy something I had only dreamed about.
