BOX OFFICE: STAR WARS: TFA Passes AGE OF ULTRON As It Takes Aim At AVATAR's #1 Spot

Star Wars: The Force Awakens had another record breaking day yesterday, and while some of you still don't believe it's going to happen, the way the movie is currently performing points to the J.J. Abrams helmed release ultimately topping Avatar's worldwide haul...

Tomorrow, Star Wars: The Force Awakens wil pass Avengers: Age of Ultron to become the sixth biggest movie of all-time, and The Wrap reports that its current performance points to the J.J. Abrams helmed release overtaking both Titanic and Avatar to become the world's highest grossing film. It took in $25 million from overseas on Friday, taking its total there to $704 million. Throw in its $686 million domestic haul (the movie broke the record for the most made on New Year's Day yesterday), and it has a worldwide cume of $1.39 billion in around just three weeks. It opens in China this month, while the site adds that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has a chance to beat James Cameron's record holders because it's, "packing that kind of punch at the box office." It should still top Avatar's domestic record in the next few days and is expected to have passed Furious 7, The Avengers, and Jurassic World on the worldwide chart this week. Impressive!

The domestic record is going to be crushed, Star Wars could realistically hit $1 billion or at least something very close. The world wide record will be a lot tighter.

I'm a Star Trek fan more than Star Wars but TFA brang back THE feeling of Star Wars. It was a great movie and deserves all the hype.

Loved the movie. Actually made me appreciate the Prequels more for being it's own story and the Golden Age of the Jedi. I like the theory Rey is a Skywalker/Kenobi and that the new Trilogy will have the grandchildren of Anakin and Obi Wan dueling it out.

LOL! It'll probably do 800million in China, but that's about it. Avatar has 2.7 billion. Nearing to freaking 3billion Star Wars will come close but it ain't passing.

People are talking like this is close to Avatar. This is only half way to 2.7 billion. With a 40% + drop off weekend to weekend it has no chance. Avatar had 5% drops or lower. It only took in 25 million overseas today and it would need at least another billion OS to top avatar, and that's assuming it can make another 400 million domestic.

Jurassic World's #3 spot is toast, but I think Titanic will stay #2 for a while.

The only reason Avatar made so much money was because they re-released it theaters and accumulated everything they did while in theaters even if they were re-showing it for a limited time.

It was great trying out the new tech during that time so it looked fantastic at that time. But tried to re watch it at home on Blu-Ray just wasn't the same. Stopped watching after he met the blue chick.

Those are beautiful. The one with Kylo's mind probe in the shot would have worked beautifully against the New Hope probe shot.

It deserves to be near avatar, as both are over hyped bland checklist movies that completely fail to reach any real emotion and give you something meaningful.

Star wars is no longer Sci Fi-Fantasy, its genre is only Star Wars nostalgia now.
