BOX OFFICE: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Has Finally Finished Its Domestic Run

Disney and Lucafilm's Star Wars: The Force Awakens has finally left its last North American theater after a six month run that leaves the film's domestic box office haul just shy of $1 billion.

After being released in December, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally out of all North American theaters, finishing its domestic run at $936.6 million.  While some superhero blockbuster films hope for a worldwide gross of $1 billion, Episode VII nearly accomplished that feat with just its home court numbers.  That's especially impressive give the current state of box office revenue splits, which typically fall in the 30% domestic/70% international range.  From an estimated production budget of $245 million, the film has grossed $2.068 billion worldwide for a 45% domestic/55% international split.

Given how close the film is to crossing the $1 billion dollar mark domestically, should Disney re-release the film in theaters? Perhaps they should do so a few weeks before the release of Episode VIII?
