BOX OFFICE: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Takes Another SPIDER-MAN Record Today

The other day we found out that Star Wars: The Force Awakens had dethroned Spider-Man 2 as the all-time highest Monday earner, and now it looks set to surpass the $35 million Tuesday record currently held by Sony's 2012 reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man. Click on for more...

Not only did Disney's Star Wars: The Force Awakens officially pass the $300M mark at the domestic box office faster than any other film yesterday (Jurassic World did it in eight days, TFA in five), but after taking the highest Monday earner title from Spider-Man 2, it now looks set to do the same to Sony's 2012 reboot, with a best all-time Tuesday haul of a projected $37.88M. It seems the Force has it in for the Webhead!

The unprecedented box office dominance of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens has analysts predicting that it could actually topple Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time, and become the first to amass a whopping $3 billion. Obviously that remains to be seen, but with the return to the galaxy far, far away continuing to break records left right and center, I wouldn't bet against it.

Where are all the idiots that kept saying (as of yesterday) that this movie was going to drop off very quickly and not beat Avatar. I hate to say it, but it was mostly BvS fans. SWTFA is making unprecedented amounts of money and will easily beat Avatar domestically, much to the chagrin of the DC Fanboys. Of course, I know why they hate SWTFA...because it's owned by Disney, and Disney happens to also own Marvel so they must hate on it. Idiotic.

You sound like an idiot.....the only people complaining or voicing their opinions are people who did not like the film. Also even the die hard DC fanboys are admitting that BvS will not even get close to the numbers of what this movie will do.

Infact you can add Civil War and BvS together and it still will not beat this movie in box office earnings.

That being said no this movie will not break Avatars record. To many big movies are hitting in Feb which will eat away at the earnings for this movie. Avatar was a crap movie with new technology and it ran for 6 months in the theaters........

By the way I think everyone agrees that Disney buying SW was the best thing to happen to SW!!!!!!

Lucas has already butchered the crap out of it! At least with Disney we will get more sequels and spin offs and maybe some live action television shows.

Remember in TASM when Peter was 2 cents short on milk money so the cashier wouldn't spare him 2 cents & then the one guy robs the cashier and gives Peter his milk and Peter lets him go and the robber is stopped by Uncle Ben who pauses for about 20 seconds when he sees a gun and gets killed because Peter let a robber go because the cashier wouldn't mind Peter being a few cents short on milk?

Remember when Peter decided to go out and beat up every thug in NYC thinking he's the guy who killed Uncle Ben?

Remember when we had that 5 minute long scene with Spidey and the car thief which was awkward and cringe worthy as [frick]?

Remember how Lizard's plan was a rip off of Ra's al Ghul's from Batman Begins in spraying gas all around the city?

Remember how in the comics, Lizard had a family and Connors wasn't in control of the monster at first which made Lizard a tragic and relatable villain?

Remember when Peter gets bit by a spider by his neck which was a Twilight rip off?

Remember when Peter threw a football at the goal post and bent it and nobody thought that was strange and everybody in the theaters thought that was stupid as [frick]?

Remember "those are the best kind" line which took away the character development Peter had?

Remember how Peter stole stuff from Oscorp to make his webshooters?

Remember when Peter went skateboarding?

Remember when Aunt May was crazy as [frick] worried about her eggs?

Remember when Peter put his name on the camera and was carrying it around?

Remember how Gwen was a plot device, instead of a character, to solve issues from gaping wounds on Peter's chest to Peter being bullied to stopping Lizard and his plans?

Shit movie.

Never say never. If the drop percentage in daily earnings keeps up, TFA is on track to hit it's first billion before the weekend is out, if not before it starts (Christmas/Christmas Eve is a HUGE wild card). If this proves to have legs, it has a solid shot at over-taking Avatar.

@JoeMomma29 You're wrong. This movie will make close to 800 million domestically. It's projected to make about 200 million on it's second weekend. I'm going to go by what the experts are saying (3 billion worldwide) and not you, who has no credibility in the field.

@Cles

Right now there is nothing in the theaters to slow it down right now. But it will start to slow down in Jan and then when Feb hits it will really start to stall. Also keep in mind kids are out of school so parents are taking them but the majority of those kids will not have repeat showings due to money etc.......

Can it beat Avatar, of course anything is possible. To me it will get close, like I have stated before I hope it does.

I will remember to mention you many times when the movie does not hit the 3 Billion mark! And if it does please feel free to mention me many times.

And never said I had credibility in that field......just using common sense. Also on a side note, you sound so bitter for some reason.

2009 was the last time a Christmas fell on a Friday and that year Avatar, heading into the Christmas weekend, had the exact same drop on its first Monday. Should the trend continue, and there's little reason it wouldn't, Star Wars would top $300 million by the end of today, $400 million by midnight on Friday, $500 million by Saturday evening and close out Sunday around $580 million. There are, of course, some things to consider concerning these numbers and Tuesday's gross will obviously tell us a lot more about how this film is playing.

Should dailies hold relatively even all week we are definitely looking at an Avatar scenario. That said, looking forward to the weekend, the Avatar comparison would result in a second weekend of $185 million for Force Awakens, a 25.3% drop from its opening weekend. However, if you subtract the $57 million Thursday night previews from the Star Wars opening weekend we're only looking at a 3.1% second weekend drop.

This doesn't sound the least bit unlikely given the massive amount of tickets that were pre-sold and the fact we're talking about a Christmas weekend that saw Avatar dip only 1.8%. For those wondering, Disney has confirmed with BoxOfficeMojo.com they will not be adding any additional theaters this coming weekend, which leaves the count at 4,134.

For a full visual, the days ahead for Star Wars could look like this if it followed the exact same, daily path as Avatar:

Monday: $40.1 M / $288.1 M
Tuesday: $39.4 M (1.83% drop) / $327.5 M
Wednesday: $40.3 M (2.23% increase) / $367.7 M
Thursday: $27.3 M (32.19% drop) / $395. M
Friday: $56.5 M (107.11% increase) / $451.5 M
Saturday: $69.2 M (22.43% increase) / $520.7 M
Sunday: $59.4 M (14.24% drop) / $580.1 M ($185M weekend)

I love your research and data. It all sounds solid. Here is the big difference SW is starting off strong in fact beyond strong. The opposite happened with Avatar....it got all its tickets sales towards the backend. Due to word of mouth people keep seeing it over a span of six months. I have no doubt that SW will hit 1 Billion by this weekend or early next week. I am sure it will hit 2 billion by the second week of January. But can the hype hold up through Feb?

Avatar had no competition for its long run, SW does. Heck we have Kung Fu Panda 3, Deadpool, and BvS coming out soon. It is a more crowded space in 2016. And let me make it clear.....I HOPE THIS DOES BEAT AVATAR!!!!!!!

Amazing Spiderman the best? Please. The first one was a ripoff of the 1st Raimi Spidey, beat for beat. Raimi's was better. TAS couldn't even get the costume correct, even as they claimed to be "truer to the comics". The second one was only marginally better than Raimi's Spidey 3. Crappy Green Goblin too.

Rebooting Spidey saved him from anymore of Marc Webb's weak ass version.
