C-3PO's New Red Arm To Be Explained In New STAR WARS Comic

With STAR WARS: The Force Awakens there have been more questions than answers ever since the start of production. So many changes have happened to so many of our favorite characters, one them especially being C-3PO and why he has a red arm. Finally, Marvel has the answer!

As we all know Marvel and Star Wars teamed up and has been releasing new series of Star Wars comics that help tie in the previous films to the long-awaited The Force Awakens. Well, today Marvel has announced their new one-shot series starring none other than the galaxy's best humanoid protocol droid, C-3PO! The comic will be called Star Wars Special: C-3PO #1The comic will go on to explain as to how and why C-3PO ended up with the red arm as he goes on a solo adventure. I don't know about you, but I am very excited to see C-3PO get himself into some trouble again.

If that wasn't great enough, the comic is to be written and illustrated by the award-winning team of Tony Harris and James Robinson. Last time this team was together was almost 18 years ago!  "That’s a really exciting part of doing this story,"  said Robinson. "I saw a photo of C-3PO with his red arm the other day and I thought ‘Wow, I’m the writer who gets to explain that.'"

If we're luck Marvel continues to release these one-shots helping explain some more mysteries that The Force Awakens has brought upon us. The one-shot comic is set to be released in December

Because he was in a coma for 9 years and lost his arm.

We will learn in the end of the movie that that's not the real 3PO but a decoy and the real 3PO is out there.

I might be alone on this, but I would've been perfectly fine never seeing an explanation for C-3PO's red arm.

Shut up @SauronsBANE

We need The Phantom Pio story told.

It's for toy sales. Not sure who made this point in a comment thread the other day, but it made sense.

@DrDoom I totally agree. My guess is that people probably would've been pissed has they chosen R2 to do changes to.

I know the change is for toys and stuff, but how can you explain this through movie logic? We're supposed to believe that they couldn't just replace it with another gold one? They had to go with red one...?

@LEVITIKUZ

Can't argue with that

@Niklander

No I spoiled I would write how 3PO got his arm back and what I would call the story.

;D

Honestly, I could care less about seeing more C3PO. 6 movies is enough. I'm sure there are other droids that can be used for the new trilogy.

Love "Star Wars" but a comic about C-3PO???????

Didn't C-3PO have a silver leg in A NEW HOPE? No one complained about that, and I don't know if there was ever a story explaining it, although it was less noticeable. Perhaps in the future of the new trilogy, it is harder to get replacement parts for older droids and red was all they had available. Of course, why they don't just paint it gold is another matter. Don't they have paint in the STAR WARS galaxy?

Yeah, he used to have a silver leg... Nobody ever drew attention to it. Clearly the idea is that spare parts are hard to come by in the gold finish, which would make perfect sense if they had gone with the logical assumption that he was a high-end protocol droid designed to work for politicians or royalty instead of randomly having him built by a slave boy on Tatooine.

@SuperCat, I think it'll be cool. C-3PO is a snooze fest himself, but he lives in a wild universe. I'm guessing it'll be kind of like "Bone" in the sense of following a bunch of characters that don't have power and charisma themselves, but get into grand adventures and work alongside powerful and interesting people. The concept sounds good to me

@SauronsBANE

Actually no, I honestly would have been fine with it too.

Official explanations rarely tend to be as interesting or personally satisfying as head-canon...

The red arm will have something to either First Order..red banner..red arm? But that seems kind of dumb now that I read it. Maybe Scavenger finds him loss and armless and uses spare arm from junk pile.
Matchow
Matchow - 9/5/2015, 7:36 PM
I think it's First Order related. Like maybe all their protocol droids have a red arm and C3PO is inserted as a spy. Bam.

About the topic, seems like C3PO was tuned by Stark.

Because lefties hawe always been red?

All shiny metall plates are used up by Captain Phantasmagoria?

He,s been riding the Falcon, "elbow resting on elbow out the window"-style and he got a really bad tan?

@DrDoom, there is a long history of people losing their arms and having them replaced in SW. Also, if you're against changing characters' looks just to sell new toys, you're a fan of the wrong thing here.
