One of the things I was really hoping they could accomplish was bridging the two trilogies visually, and they did a damn good job. This film was beautiful!

@DoubleD said this already but really...once or twice is enough for me. Its a solid movie but there is really nothing in this movie that makes me want or have to go back and see it again.

The weakest thing about the movie was the new characters. After episode IV kids were huge fans of Luke, Han, Vader and Leia. Some boys thought Han was the man and others swore it was Luke. We won't be seeing kids fighting over how great Finn was or how badass Kylo Ren is. Dameron came across like an idiot who is just really good in an X-wing.

Daisey Ridley was nice but Rey could do everything because she is omniscient like Katherine Janeway or Seven of Nine which is why Rey is going to finish Luke's training in episode 8. Luke was thinking "Crap! My new teacher is here and she's handing me my old lightsaber. She's going to make me finish my training. F*ck!"

Rey is like a version of Rocky who knows everything and beats Apollo without having to train. No fun in that.

@ManDeth

The new characters are already fan favorites. They were far from weak. I've witnessed products featuring the characters sell out quick within the last week. Rey in particular is steadily gaining a huge fan base. You're speaking from personal opinion.

I have no idea what movie Mandeth saw where Rocky didn't train and beat Apollo Creed. Also have no idea of the Rey he speaks of because the Rey in EP7 is a former padawan whose skill set and memories were and are being unleashed and unlocked because of
A. The Force
B. Kylo Ren trying to extract memories from her mind
C. The Lightsaber bound to the Skywalker family

Sometimes people need to go into a movie without their 5 cent fan fiction expectations and appreciate what is being served on screen. Like that dumb ass Max Landis.

Max Landis is just sucking the bitter vintage of sour grapes because he didn't get to make the film and he thinks he can shit-talk his way into one. If not, then he is GROSSLY over-estimating the interest his opinion holds on the subject.

Disney played it waaayyyyy safe with this SW movie (-they have to answer to their stockholders after all...). The next question is: is there any ONE person in charge of this story like George Lucas was or are we to be subjected to the whims of each individual director from here on in? If so I'm afraid we're in for a bigger mess than Force Awakens.

"Disney played it waaayyyyy safe with this SW movie"
Yeah, because killing off a popular/veteran/fan-favorite character like Han Solo is definitely playing it safe.

This movie takes thirty years after the last one and your main complaint is making her look better...
ManDeth

@DTor91 Phantom Menace products quickly sold out too. Most of the stuff is bought by collectors. I'm not saying people hate the new characters but they aren't that into them either. One way to gauge that is that is the majority of news coverage and brief snippets mentioning the film's success, you don't hear mentions of them.

The opposite of coverage post A New Hope. It was wall to wall Vader, Luke, Leia, Han. Even R2D2, C3P0 were often discussed. After Empire Yoda was an instant household name. The characters and casting were definitely better than any of Abram's Police Academy homage Star Trek characters and cast though. But none have broke through. Rey might later. But Finn and Poe are not anything new in film like Han and Luke were. Rey is of course a new type of Star Wars character in film and the most mysterious of the three.

Many SW fansites and threads indicate a bit of disappointment in Snoke and Ren. Ren might've been better without any of the Vader worship. The worship makes him a pussy wannabe. He's a Vader fanboy.

@Bl00dwerK One thing about the movie though, Rey was done exactly the way Anakin should have been done in Star Wars 1. The age. The self reliance. The natural pilot instinct. The ability to defeat force users with more experience. Anakin was supposed to have an uncanny ability to understand tech. He personally customized and improve his Jedi Starfighter and Tie Fighter. There was a slight hint of that with C3P0 but it wasn't really developed.

Could Rey be a rip of Anakin and Luke? Maybe she has no parents and is "The Chosen One".

Abrams and Kasdan did make falling in love just as stupid as Lucas did. Rey and Finn only knew each other a few hours and were in love.

ManDeth
ManDeth - 12/23/2015, 5:17 AM
@GeekyCheekyChic First, it's a rumor that Rey already knew those force techniques and they were blocked. What 5-7 year old padawan in Star Wars could do all of those Force tricks at such a young age? Was she also taught how to fly and repair the Falcon? Was she also taught fierce saber combat?

If Abrams tries to claim she was recovering memories it becomes even more stupid, not better. Because he is saying she was already a Jedi at age 5-7 and more advanced than Anakin at 20. Nothing else to teach her.
