The Star Wars: The Force Awakens global press event was a star studded affair, with most of the main cast (with the exception of Mark Hamill) dropping by to talk about their experiences making the film, while also revealing one or two interesting new tidbits.

The highlights include Adam Driver discussing his character Kylo Ren and suggesting that he may not actually be a full-on villain, Gwendoline Christie hinting that Captain Phasma will return in future movies, producer Kathleen Kennedy revealing whether or not we'll see Jar Jar Binks and the Ewoks again (Spoiler: we won't), and Carrie Fisher just being hilarious in general.

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.

Ok, here's my theory regarding where's Luke. Bear in mind, I have tried to avoid most news articles regarding the new movie, so I might be way off due to lack of info. Anyway, here it is:

I have been thinking about the fact that the Rebellions seems to have failed to create a New Republic and after 30+ years, they are still having a Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the now called Resistance. But why did the Rebellion failed? Why is there no New Republic?

What ingredient is currently missing that was present during the creation of Old Republic? The answer is the Jedi. The Jedi where instrumental in the creation of the Old Republic. Not just due to their martial skills, but because of their diplomatic skills. They brought everyone together.

Maybe, just maybe, Luke Skywalker realized this. He realized that the Galaxy wasn't going to come together against the Dark Side inspired Galactic Empire. He realized that the Galaxy needed the Jedi but while there still was a war raging, he couldn't just set up shop with an open academy because it would be targeted all the time by the agents of the Empire. Therefore, he went underground. Looking for individuals strong in the Force. Growing again the ranks of the Jedi in secrecy...and they are about to come back.

Finn could actually be a young Jedi serving as a scout infiltrated within the Empire. That would explain him escaping and him wielding a lightsaber like if he knows what he's doing.

If I am right, I suspect that Luke will be missing for most of the film and show up at the end to save the day with his New Jedi Order. That would leave the door open to the plot of the next movie which would be how the Imperials respond to the Jedi by recruiting Dark Siders.

So, that's my theory. What do you think?
