Co-director Christopher Miller has embraced the force on this very special day and took to Twitter to release a behind-the-scenes image of the upcoming Star Wars anthology film focusing on the early adventures of Han Solo. The image showcases Han's signature blaster, the DL-44 heavy blaster pistol. It seems like early production for the film is underway, and it's possible that principal photography for the film will start soon, since the film is scheduled for a 2018 release.

Recent reports indicate that Beautiful Creatures and Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich is in the front-running to play the fastest smuggler in the galaxy, but it looks like we won't know for sure until later this year at Star Wars Celebration. Are you excited for the Han Solo film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

But having seen Hail Caeser, Alden Ehrenreich seems an interesting actor.

@SimplyAz - He [frick]ing steals the show from all the other stars. Excited for him and hope he gets the gig.

@Reasonnnn -

I guess he would have some degree of anonymity, and hopefully they can make him look more like the character.

@SimplyAz - I was against this movie, but lord and Miller are great and if this guy plays Han Solo, I'm 100% on board. He was the best part of hail, Caesar!

@The72nd -

Pretty much my feelings about the movie. Also when as a parent you have to sit through a lot of kids movies, it truely makes you appreciate stuff like Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs and Lego Movie.
I do recommend Zootopia though.

Lord and Miller are the only reasons I'm one bit excited for this film, and I'm a HUGE fan of Star Wars and the character but this film seems....eh. Hopefully it turns out to be good.

Hail, Caesar was SO BAD. And I usually enjoy Coen flicks.

Was just coming in here to see if this idea is still as hated as it should be, and yes, it still seems like nobody wants to see this happening. Of all the spin offs they could come up with...

Sigh. I knew when Disney dropped all that cash to acquire Star Wars we would get this....

You gotta admire Disney. Nobody asked for a Han Solo prequel film, but they're making one anyways.

Honestly, while I really like the directors, the more I hear about this movie, the less I ever want to see it.

Out of all the characters at their disposal, I think going with Han Solo was a mistake.
It feels one of those situations where you THINK you want to see the character's backstory...but usually the backstory you've made up in your own mind tends to be more interesting than the official thing...

Also, I don't care WHO they cast, or how incredible they are for the role, if they don't look like Harrison Ford when it's all said and done, it will absolutely SHATTER my suspension of disbelief. I just flat out won't be able to buy it.

So...yeah Lucasfilm. Good luck.
