So with
Star Wars: The Force Awakens it was inevitable that people were going to pay attention to George Lucas. He's compared the sale of the Star Wars franchise to
Divorce and
selling people into Slavery.
It should go without saying that Lucas gets too much credit for Star Wars. There's always been rumors that Lucas had to be swayed from making radical changes to the Star Wars formula. Eventually he did away with anybody who would challenge him and was left with a bunch of 'yes' men.
When Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney he obviously could've been very rich but threw away the money to charity. A noble move but irrational. I mean this is something he came up with and is handing off, and even if he had noble intentions, it still makes no sense that he'd not take some money.
With recent comments I wonder if he's just seeking attention. Since Star Wars is no longer his, he wants something to his name and this is his attempt to still keep the Star Wars brand tied to him. He calls it like a divorce and all this but in all fairness it sounds like a man who just isn't ready to let it go. Maybe he was forced out, maybe they politely asked him to step aside. Either way, what's done is done.
If he wants to make shitty animated films or whatever, let him, but don't give him attention. He got enough of that, and considering he's made it clear that he's never been a fan of giving the fans what they want, I think it's high time people stop giving Lucas the time of day. He stopped making Star Wars for the fans, and now he's just frustrated that Disney is doing just that.
