Last week, Latino Review reported that Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Jupiter Ascending, Beyond The Lights) had joined Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Olivia Cooke (Me And earl And The Dying Girl) on the shortlist for one of the female leads in Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII, and according to Collider's sources the actress has won the role.

The site doesn't have any specifics on the character she'll be playing, but she joins Benicio del Toro as the movie's (probable) villain.

Mbatha-Raw can be seen soon in NFL drama Concussion, and she also has a role in 2017's live-action Beauty and the Beast. Star Wars: Episode VIII opens May 26, 2017.

I don't get why so many people think she became famous from Jupiter Ascending, because I thought it was from the movie Belle? Maybe I'm wrong though. That movie was very forgetful so maybe that's why she stands out from it. As for this news I happy, she's a great actress and I can't wait to see who she'll play in the movie. I just hope she isn't Lando's daughter. Because they need more brothers and sisters in space.
