Ian McDiarmid Confirms No Emperor Palpatine In ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY

While his iconic apprentice will be making his presence known, it looks like an appearance from the sinister ruler of the Galactic Empire isn't in the cards for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story...

Star Wars is a franchise that loves its hooded and robed villains, and there's no doubt that Emperor Palpatine is the worst of the bunch. Many fans speculated that we might see the Emperor again in the upcoming prequel to the original trilogy, Rogue One, and there were several bits of evidence to back this up - including the recently confirmed presence of Darth Vader, and shots of a mysterious black-robed figure entering a room with the Imperial Royal Guard in the trailers.

Unfortunately, it looks like those theories have been dashed, as the Emperor himself, Ian McDiarmid, has confirmed he won't be appearing as the Sith Lord in the film.  "I don’t feature in that myself, but I understand that Darth Vader may be making an appearance,” the actor stated during an interview at Amsterdam Comic-Con.

While this doesn't rule out an appearance from Palpatine altogether, it's probably safe to assume that Lucasfilm wouldn't have another actor play the villain, especially with many of the original cast members from both trilogies reprising their roles in some form or another in recent films.

Would you have wanted to see the Emperor in Rogue One? Sound off below!

weird. youd think the emperor would at least make a cameo if vader is in it. you'd want to show that the emperor was out their pulling strings being the puppet master of the whole war.

I feel like anyone could play the Emperor. I actually didn't like how Ian played him in ROTS.

@cbostont102 - Anyone could, but they won't recast. McDiarmid was iconic in the role, and given that they've asked so many actors back, they wouldn't have not asked him if the Emperor was going to have a role.

@MattBellissimo - I hear you Matt but I believe he is fat that could be trimmed. I feel he overly hammed up the the role and if the character is brought back it should be in a very minimalist role.

@MattBellissimo - I kind of feel like without Darth Vader and Darth Sidious the original Star Wars fans will never be pleased. A lot of the original fans despise Kylo Ren.

@cbostont102 - He was only hammy in 3, imo. Before that he was great, I think.

....really? When TFA came out I saw near unanimous praise. I thought Driver was spectacular, and I LOVE the OT.

@MattBellissimo - Not from my end. I saw lots of fans complain how Kylo was just an obsessed fanboy. (IRONIC RIGHT?) when majority of the ones complaining were obsessed fanboys.

@SonOfAGif - That's so odd....many people said it, so I'll just rephrase it....Kylo Ren was really what Anakin Skywalker should have been in the prequels

I still believe Red Skull will appear in Thor Ragnarok as either a slave to the grandmaster or a combatant.

Palpatine was also sullied by the prequels. In ROTJ he was a very serious and evil person. In ROTS he was the maniacal Green Goblin. Which is ironic considering Vader is Doctor Doom.
