The Jedi: Fallen Order video game was a bigger hit than anyone expected (especially coming from EA), and the story of young Jedi Cal Kestis was one that fans instantly seemed to respond to. As a result, the character has since become a firm fan favourite, with the hope being that he will eventually appear in a live-action project.
Cal's story will continue in next year's Jedi: Survivor, with Gotham alum Cameron Monaghan reprising the role. In recent years, we've seen actors who have lent their voices to characters in animation bring them into a live-action setting (Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, for example), while others have been replaced (Rosario Dawson took over as Ahsoka Tano from Ashley Eckstein).
There continue to be rumours online that Gotham alum Cameron Monaghan will bring his video game protagonist to the big or small screen, but could another actor beat him to it?
Talking on The Movie Dweeb (via SFFGazette.com), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Will Poulter was asked about potentially travelling to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. The hosts mentioned that he's a popular suggestion to play Cal given the physical similarities between them, and there's no denying that he's a bigger star than Monaghan.
While he's not familiar with the character or game, Poulter replied, "I definitely would not say no. I mean I was a huge Star Wars fan as a kid. I can remember wearing like a brown bathrobe and getting a lightsaber, made out of a neon-painted cardboard wrapping paper tube."
Something tells us Star Wars fans wouldn't be happy with Monaghan being replaced, and Poulter does have a cosmic future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Adam Warlock. Asked if he hopes to keep returning to that role for years to come, he said, "I really hope so, dude. You know, I don't honestly know what the plan is, I mean that is, hand on heart, you know the truth."
We'll see what happens, but there are plenty of upcoming Star Wars projects we could see Cal Kestis in over the next few years. Whether that's the plan at Lucasfilm remains to be seen.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.
