Star Wars.com has unveiled some of the packaging that'll be used for their upcoming range of Rogue One toys and collectibles. Though the actual item remains obscured, we do get some cool new promotional art of one of those sinister looking black-clad Stormtroopers.

Rumor has it that these guys will be part of the Empire's elite death squad, and so fans have dubbed them Deathtroopers for the time being. There's also some Imperial AT-AT Walkers blasting away in the background amid a swarm of TIE Fighters.

I hope they're Dark Troopers, like in Dark Forces.

@dubjon - I believe Captain Phasma was going to be that TR8R guy in the action scene, but J.J was afraid to kill the most badass character he ever created in his whole life and decide to make this character a plain and simple ploit device...

I love how the Michael Ardnt perfet ideas were made shit by J.J. Abrams insecurities in the time of making a secure and nice blockbuster.

@AleSir19 - A plot device? She isn't even a plot device lol. There's like a million different ways they could have shut down the shields that I can think of.

She looks pretty [frick]ing cool tho.

@McSullivan - That they could have used thousands of different plot devices to shut down the shields, doesnt mean Captain Phasma isnt a Plot Device, it only mean they go with the most easy and coherent plot device they had in hand...

Captain Phasma is a Plot Device in the same way Doomsday is, the movie doesnt need them, you can even erase this characters from the movie and it would be the same, but the only thing that make them irreplaceable is their "role" in the plot.

Because you could use "TR8R" in the same "rol" Captain Phasma had and it would had been the same and even better, because at less "TR8R" fight againts Finn.

Doomsday is the same, you could use Braniac, Bizarro even the same old Lex Luthor with his green suit, the thing is, they do all the same, be an excuse to bring Trinity together to fight againts some shit.

Captain Phasma is a plot device (who look really cool but at end doesnt mean anything) in the same way the "Starkiller Base" is a "McGuffin" for the real plot behind all this stupid thing of "We have to destroy the Deathstar", in another words, Han Solo againts Ben Solo...

@AleSir19 - well, you have a point right there.

She still looks cool af, but you're right, it doesn't mean shit 'cause she is useless.

So um, I assume these "Death Troopers" "die" before A New Hope.

@ENigmaShow - Or they don't and just don't appear in the original trilogy lol

@ENigmaShow - They probably added to sell toys doubt Disney was thinking it through

@ENigmaShow - I have no problem with the fact that we haven't seen them before. The Speeder-Bike troopers in "Return of the Jedi" hadn't been seen before or since. Same with the snow troopers in "Empire Strikes Back." The Empire has a bunch of different Stormtrooper helmet designs, apparently.

I guess they all are on the death star when it blows up, or are killed by the team.

[SPOILER ALERT]

The Death Star blows up.

Yeah, been there, done that.

I LOVED Force Awakens ( Team Kilo Ren) but I will NEVER see another Star Wars prequel.

Looks cool but I wonder, beyond purely aesthetic reasons, why they would want to have glowing green lights on their helmets if they are completely black.

why this guys were never showed in the original movies or in TFA?

posted this on the other Rogue One article, figured i'd say it here as well:

I'm cautiously optimistic about these spin off films. I have a very sicking feeling that the Star Wars canon is going to end up like the FOX-men timeline. Don't get me wrong. I love Star Wars....I eat, sleep, breath, and bleed SW. Hell, I'm one of the very few hardcore fans that actually enjoyed the PT somewhat. But I just dont understand 2 things....1) Why they felt the need to dispose of all the excellent expanded universe that had been established over soooo many years. There have been so many fantastic stories from the books, games, and comics that would have made extraordinary films! Kinda feels like Disney spit in our faces a bit on that one. 2) How can you have multiple things be canon now that don't seem to be coinciding. For instance, how will they explain why none of the characters from this film are in A New Hope? Same goes for Rebels, how come none of those characters appear to be in Rogue One? Does everyone die?!?!? I kinda dont see the point.
