ROGUE SQUADRON Removed From Schedule As Disney Reveals Release Dates For MUFASA, SNOW WHITE, And More

Disney has updated its release calendar, and while Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron is now undated, we do know when the likes of Mufasa: The Lion King, Snow White, and Haunted Mansion are heading our way...

Following this past weekend's D23, Disney has updated its release date schedule, and the big news (via SFFGazette.com) is that Rogue Squadron is no longer dated. It's been obvious for some time now that the movie wouldn't be blasting into theaters as planned on December 22, 2023, but the fact that it's not on the calendar at all...we have to assume the movie has been scrapped.

This marks another embarrassment for Lucasfilm as the studio continues struggling to figure out its big screen slate. Solo: A Star Wars Story's underperformance saw plans for spinoff movies halted, hence why characters like Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi later took centre stage on Disney+ instead.

In fairness, the studio can't be blamed for David Benioff and DB Weiss ditching their planned Star Wars trilogy for a lucrative Netflix deal or Rian Johnson choosing to prioritise the Knives Out franchise. However, Lucasfilm made a point of announcing that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins would helm Rogue Squadron at the end of 2020 in a pricey reveal video.

That video was seemingly all for nought, and creative differences have clearly led to Jenkins deciding against telling a story she once described as a passion project. This may also explain the lack of announcements from Lucasfilm at D23.

While there are movies in the works from Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige, they still appear to be a long way off. As of right now, it sounds like Jenkins is done with Rogue Squadron and no one seems entirely sure whether it's even still in development.

Disney has also announced the following:

Next Goal Wins - April 21, 2023
Haunted Mansion - August 11, 2023
Wish - November 22, 2023
Untitled Marvel Studios Movie - February 16, 2024 September 6, 2024.
Elio - March 1, 2024
Snow White - March 22, 2024
Inside Out 2 - June 14, 2024
Mufasa: The Lion King - July 5, 2024

So, lots of changes and some big news there. It's a real shame about Rogue Squadron, but you can relive that splashy announcement video below (unfortunately, we're guessing that's as close as Jenkins will be getting to an X-Wing unless she's planning a trip to Galaxy's Edge).

Haha! Good! No one needed Patty to make a movie with just the name! And miss all the importance from the source material! 🤘🏻

I doubt we'll we seeing Waititi and Feige's movies soon (if at all) either.

Waititi already has a lot of other projects lined up (good to see one of them has a date now) and Feige probably is busy as well, because since the announcement Disney+ has been added to his plate as well. And we haven't ever heard about J.D. Dillard.

If we're getting a Star Wars movie on the big screen, I bet it's Episode X in ten years.

I'm starting to get a vibe that Kathleen Kennedy is making Disney+ shows are a priority, why?

Everyone is either committed to other projects or they have no script ready, just vague announcements. So, since top quality directors/screenwriters aren't really booming at the door to clear their schedules for a Star Wars film...why would she bother?

Once her contract is up I feel, I think a new Star Wars will enter production.

Not surprised.

Now cancel Taika Waititi movie's too. I don't want his shitty comedy like Thor in Star Wars.

@RevanOfKrypton - I agree his style(if you can call it that) of comedy doesn't work for Thor and definitely not Star Wars.

Pretty sure this movie was actually scrapped the day after Wonder Woman 84 came out

Kennedy putting the cart before the horse again. I’m still suspicious that Indiana Jones is her real passion project given her history with the franchise. I wouldn’t be surprised if she lets her contract with Lucasfilm expire after the film comes out. I think it is up for renewal soon.

Also....this is sort of awkward now.

Good. She was gonna ruin it anyway by not following the source material and giving her own interpretation of it to us. She even stated that Luke wasn't gonna be in it and it's gonna be based off of just random pilots. That's like saying they're gonna make an avengers movie back in 2011 and not have iron man in it.

A friend of mine who is working on Rogue Squadron in the U.K. did say that production was halted due to release schedules being shifted.
