SANDMAN Star Gwendoline Christie Shares Hopes To Return To STAR WARS Franchise As Captain Phasma

Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) has shared her hopes to reprise the role of Captain Phasma in a future Star Wars project, admitting that there's still lots to be done with the intimidating villain.

Before we even sat down to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters, there was one character who fans instantly gravitated towards: Captain Phasma. Quite easily the most unique-looking Stormtrooper we'd seen to date thanks to her shiny armour, the fact that Phasma was being played by Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie only served to increase excitement.

Alas, despite being an intimidating presence on screen, the villain was largely wasted. That was particularly the case in The Last Jedi when she met an abrupt and fiery end, and it felt a lot like Lucasfilm failed to take advantage of a character who could have been every bit as formidable and terrifying as Kylo Ren.

The Star Wars trilogy was rife with missed opportunities, of course, but if we ever revisit that period, you have to believe more Captain Phasma is a real possibility.

She's already appeared in the animated Star Wars Resistance and her own Marvel Comics series, so how would Christie feel about reprising the role? "I haven’t read the comics but, I mean, it’s Star Wars! I would absolutely love that," the Sandman star tells Empire Online (via SFFGazette.com). "There was a template for a character that people got really excited about."

That template did excite fans, and there was a great deal of disappointment when the movies didn't quite take advantage. Phasma is an intriguing character, and one who could make for a fun recurring presence throughout any number of future TV shows or movies set in this Galaxy Far, Far Away.

After all, she was clearly key in assembling The First Order's Stormtroopers (who we knew were primarily children of the Empire's enemies), and those years before the events of The Force Awakens have plenty of storytelling potential.

For now, Christie seems happy playing as Phasma in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga!

"This is the next step for me," she jokes, "because as a teenager I was quite obsessed with computer games, and I was quite good at them. I think it’s time to revisit them because they could be everything I had initially wanted them to be. There are entire worlds out there [where] we can investigate our megalomania!"

Would you guys like to see more Captain Phasma on screen?

And not a single person cares. There are six films in the Skywalker Saga. That's it.

Why? Her character was dispatched with such indignity. She shouldn't want any part of it again.

This character, more than anything, makes me wonder what the hell JJ Abrams was thinking. People were instantly excited by the idea of this character... A non generic Stormtrooper? A female imperial officer? This actually seemed new and fresh.

And then the film makes it clear that she was never supposed to be anything, really. Completely disposable.

How was she more wasted in Last Jedi? She did nothing in TFA except give up the first order and get thrown into a trash compactor. TLJ brought her back from a presumed death and gave her a final confrontation with Finn that (with the exception of the hokey “rebel scum” line) was pretty cool, i thought

sorry, no to this fantasy-fan casting. ALL sequel trilogy characters and storylines should NOT be expanded/ spin-offed. They were all lame characters with poor writing and non-compelling story arcs. Only possibility of redemption is if it is Filoni-Favreau-ed giving the FULL creative control like Clone Wars/ Mandolorian. Otherwise, will NOT give it a chance. I am not a stupid bot.

Phasma was one of the best parts of Episode 7 for me, but just like the other good part(Finn) she was ruined in the next film(s).

Actually, she said she'd love to return cos it's Star Wars, not she hopes to return as the character lol

@toylled - don't think we ever saw her whole face as Phasma, so she could always return as another character

"there was one character who fans instantly gravitated towards: Captain Phasma."

They did? I know I certainly didn't. She was really only there to look cool and nothing else. Probably a character I couldn't care less about (okay, Knights of Ren maybe for the same reason).
