SOLO Actress Emilia Clarke Says She Was Relieved When TERMINATOR GENISYS Flopped

Emilia Clarke has already enjoyed some big-screen success since her TV debut on HBO's Game of Thrones, but her role as Qi'Ra in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story is easily her juiciest movie gig yet and should catapult her Hollywood profile to even greater heights.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, Clarke looks back over her career and discusses a wide range of topics, including the final season of Game of Thrones, journeying to the galaxy far, far away for Solo, and more. Perhaps most intriguingly, however, the highly in-demand actress admits to being relieved when Terminator Genisys was a critical and commercial flop.

Clarke initially expected her breakout movie role to be that of Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys, but it soon became evident that the film was destined to fail.

According to her, director Alan Taylor was “eaten and chewed up" on the film, and nobody had a good time making it. Because of this, Clarke was relieved when the picture flopped so they didn't have to go back and repeat the experience.

To give you some idea of how troubled the production was, the crew of Fox's disastrous Fantastic Four reboot, which was shooting nearby, had jackets made that read, "AT LEAST WE’RE NOT ON TERMINATOR."

Clarke says her new hair color is unrelated to Daenerysâs fate: âI said I just want to look in the mirror and see something different.â Clarke wears a top by the Row; earrings by Yael Sonia.

We still don't know if Dany will claim the Iron Throne or not, but whatever fate lies in store for the Mother of Dragons on Game of Thrones, Clarke has shot her final scenes as the character.

“It [frick]ed me up,” she says. “Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is . . .”

Sounds rather ominous!

Though the Breaker of Chains' journey may be coming to an end, Clarke has now joined another massive universe as Qi-Ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the actress relished the opportunity to play “a much different sort of a character” from Daenerys.

Qi'Ra is far from your traditional Star Wars heroine, and her many layers - some of 'em not so likable - attracted Clarke to the role.

“We’re going to hit you with a character that could very easily well be a dude, because you question her motives,” she explains to VF. “That’s really [frick]ing exciting in the Star Wars universe, because that has never happened.”

âWhen it comes to that amount of money, youâre almost waiting for that to happen,â Clarke says of the turmoil on the Solo set. Clarke wears a dress by Louis Vuitton.

Before signing on to play Qi'Ra, Clarke had to ask Game of Thrones show-runners Weiss and Benioff for permission, but they didn’t hesitate.

“Solo felt like a great fit that would let her show off her versatility,” they explained. “Also, we figured she’d probably get to shoot a ray gun. Ray guns are something we just can’t offer, unfortunately.

@YoloSwaggins812 - The point is, this was TERMINATOR reboot, she landed the iconic lead role Sarah Conner. It was not just another DTH trash that Arnie has done. It was "suppose" to be a blockbuster movie from a major studio that was going to reboot and heat up Terminator franchise.

Imagine if movie was a hit, she would've been part of something very big. And yes, scripts go through plenty of changes before the movie hits the theaters, that includes all the re shoots AFTER principle photography is done.

I will STILL take the role without reading the script if I was going to be cast as John Conner in a TERMINATOR reboot with Arnie in it. F the script :P

Does this site hate the big G? All sorts of Godzilla news has been happening the last few days such Toho scrapping Shin Godzilla 2 to reboot their old Godzilla films for a new cinematic universe, the first viral marketing for the Godzilla film coming out next year, Godzilla 2 release date has been pushed back to may 22 next year, or that even the new poster for the 3rd anime film was just released. Okay no one cares about that 3rd one but come on we can get an article about the god awful terminator movie that came out 3 years ago but not any of that?
