STAR WARS Fan Art Gives John Boyega's Finn The Jedi Transformation The Sequel Trilogy Failed To Deliver

The hope had been that ex-Stormtrooper Finn might become a Jedi in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but it never happened. Now, though, some new fan art imagines what that could look like in a future movie.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we were introduced to Finn, a Stormtrooper who abandoned his post to ultimately fight back against the First Order. Marketing materials for the movie suggested he might be a Jedi in the making, but The Last Jedi moved on from that idea, instead establishing the character as a serial deserter who eventually decided to become a hero (again).

J.J. Abrams, looking to undo most of what Rian Johnson did in his movie, spent a good chunk of The Rise of Skywalker teasing a big reveal about Finn that never came. However, we'd later learn he had started showing signs of being a Force-user, though it was too little too late by that point.

John Boyega has expressed disappointment and frustration with how Finn's story arc was handled, and unless we get a follow-up to the sequel trilogy, we probably won't ever see him become a Jedi.

Thankfully, a new piece of fan art (via SFFGazette.com) reveals what that could have looked like. This is an idea with realm potential, but not even original Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow intended to have Finn use the Force. Instead, he was going to be a Resistance hero, fighting the good fight on Coruscant in an epic final battle that would have finally brought an end to the First Order.

Love them or hate them, the Star Wars sequels were a mess. We could talk forever about what might have been, but at last amazing artwork like this gives us a visual representation of that. If we do see Finn again, fingers crossed he's wielding a lightsaber alongside Rey, but we won't get our hopes up.

@bobevanz - RLM came off as genuinely concerned about him at least while also trashing the movies, the razzies just came for Bruce’s throat every year

@bobevanz - he did? Didn't even try to go out with a banger? Just kinda... done... I guess lol well ok lol

His retirement is as sleepy as his last 30 movies.

@ElricReturns - He has aphasia - Caused by brain damage, those who have it gradually lose their ability to speak and understand speech. It had been rumored for some time that he had some manner of dementia that was influencing both his career choices and performances. Now it's confirmed.

@Asterisk - Bruce had already enough money to live 100 lives, and even in these crappy movies, he was still making $2M for 3 days of work...unless he was somehow forced by his family (like Stan Lee), sorry, but I'm not feeling bad for making fun of those terrible movies.

@TheHumanSpider2 - to elaborate I don’t feel bad either I don’t even really feel bad trashing him since I’ve heard he was a diva jerk for quite a while

not a fan of the sleeveless robe but not a bad look.

one of the many wasted possibilities in the sequel trilogy

seriously if Finn was going to tell rey he was force sensitive before they died (for whatever reason) then why not pay it off, give finn a moment where he taps into the connection to save the day like when luke blew up the death star

Yeah, somebody really dropped the ball by not taking him down the Jedi path. Especially after him wielding a lightsaber.

Wish the writing did his character better. Boyega is a charismatic actor.

@ModHaterSLADE - Yep. Insane how they managed to waste all the charisma of him AND Oscar Isaac. The two of them had killer chemistry in TFA, too, and then it was almost never used again.

@SerKurtWagner - Agreed. They both felt pushed to the wayside as the trilogy continued.

I like it! Like the bits of stormtrooper armor. He really should have been the main character. The story of stormtrooper who finds the force and becomes a Jedi sounds way more interesting and compelling than a female Luke clone

seriously nobody was written well in those movies.

Even Kylo, who was the best written character in the first 2, ended up with twilight level writing in the end

Boyega deserved so much better. Hell, EVERYONE in the sequel trilogy deserved so much better.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Exactly, how the hell do you cast Adam Driver as the big bad of a new Star Wars trilogy and fumble it so hard?

Rian Johnson decided the black protagonist should just get into a love spat with another minority character whilst the Uber white hero falls for the school shooter. So progressive.
