STAR WARS: OUTLAWS Gameplay Footage Showcases Combat, Speeder Bikes, And Hyperspace Travel

New gameplay footage from Star Wars: Outlaws offers a better idea of just how immersive this take on the Galaxy Far, Far Away will be, and if you've ever wanted to blast into Hyperspace, you'll love this!

Unfortunately, there's already been quite a bit of backlash aimed at Star Wars: Outlaws due to the upcoming video game having a female lead. Despite that, all signs point to this open-world adventure being a real thrill for true fans of this Galaxy Far, Far Away.

That's evident from over 10 minutes of newly released gameplay footage (via SFFGazette.com) which shows exactly how "open-world" this title truly is. Throughout the course of this sneak peek, we follow Kay Vess through combat, conversations - where you get to choose how she handles a situation - and even a speeder bike battle.

The preview culminates with the smuggler taking flight and blasting off into Hyperspace, and while there is a short cutscene when Kay boards her ship, the whole thing appears to be pretty seamless.

So, Grand Theft Auto meets Star Wars? It does look that way to a large extent, though there's obviously going to be only a finite amount of the Galaxy for players to explore (including Tatooine based on the footage below).

We're intrigued to learn more about how that's going to be handled, but Ubisoft has proved to be pretty reliable when it comes to open-world adventures so we're confident that will be the case here as well. With a story not tied too closely to the wider mythology, Star Wars: Outlaws should open the door to exploring this Galaxy in a myriad of new ways.

Experience the first-ever open-world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new.

Risk it all as Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.

Star Wars: Outlaws is set to be released in 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

@Tpo81 - Why does it matter what gender the character is?

@UncleHarm1 - it doesn’t matter, but I guess people feel they can relate to certain genders to immerse themselves in the experience - and I’m fine with that.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - I've heard that before, that some people can't connect the same to characters of different gender or race or whatever. I genuinely don't get it, like I don't look anything like Kratos or Kirby how much of a leap is it if they have titties??

@UncleHarm1 - because it’s over used, like Jyn Erso in Rogue One, and the sequel trilogy with Rey. It’s just way over used now. We need more men in these games too.

@UncleHarm1 - What? I'm not allowed to have a preference? I'm a guy so I relate to playing as a guy. I like to lose myself in the games I play & it's easier if the player is a guy. Wish they had both. I'm not saying I'm not excited about it as I said I was. And I get that guys always get to be the character in games, and it's not fair but that's what I like. Sue me

@UncleHarm1 - nobody expects you to be able to look like Kratos, however I can guarantee as the target audience speaks for itself, a lot of men can relate to a character that’s male like Kratos.

That’s why RPG games give you the option nowadays to be either (or). But with something like this - the first ever open world Star Wars game - I think fans should be allowed to have a preference of how they want to look, or play as the character.

Exactly how Hogwarts did it - this isn’t an original property like The Last of Us - it’s Star Wars. And I can bet there’s a lot of little angry boys from the 70’s and 80’s who will be annoyed they don’t even get the option. It’s not about playing as a female, it’s about being diverse to have the option to play as both that I’m sure frustrates people.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - I mean ubisoft is pretty infamous for coming up with excuses why they can't have both genders, at least until there's backlash.

@Timerider - Is it overused or making up for lost time? You got probably a thousand other star wars games with male protagonists you can play

I'm still pretty positive Kay will be a default model.

I mean isn't it really the norm these days? It's still really early considering these are only our first looks at the game. But i imagine we'll get the choice of a male or female.

I know I should temper expectations with Ubisoft and open worlds... but damn, that gameplay trailer got me hooked, i'm definitely checking this game out when it releases !

Looks terrible. Of course the lead is female but worse, she is a Han Solo type again. Can we do something besides a rogue or force user?

@AvalonX - I don't mind the lead being female. It's not even relevant imo.

What is though, is it's indeed another rogue-ish character. Hopefully there will be character-choices that allow us to decide how what kind of rogue.

@bkmeijer1 - She'll be a Jedi Mastet or Jedi Mistress by the end of it.

It looks kinda clunky at times, but I'm still pretty excited to play this. Syndicate-focused story and an open-world game? Sign me up
