Hot on the heels of the last years successful tie in Star Wars: Shattered Empire released in the lead up to Force Awakens, Marvel and Disney have announced that the upcoming anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be accompanied by a tie-in prequel comic to be released in October as well as a novel entitled Star Wars: Catalyst to come some time before the new film.
Details have not yet been forthcoming as to the plot or setting of the new comic series or novel. Whether they will be based around the new cast of characters being led by Felicity Jones’ as yet unnamed protagonist, or take the Shattered Empire route (which featured original trilogy characters as well as Poe Dameron’s parents) is yet to be seen.
Since Disney acquired Lucas Film and rebooted the expanded universe canon, Marvel have released a string of well received comics including the Darth Vader series and the aforementioned Shattered Empire, with a highly anticipated series based on Oscar Isaacs' breakout character Poe Dameron set to be released next month. The new literary additions to the canon however have had a slightly less storied reception particularly with Chuck Wendig’s Star Wars: Aftermath failing to sway supporters of the new defunct expanded universe, although Claudia Gray’s Lost Stars was met with more favourable reviews.
Are you looking forward to this one? Anything in particular you would like to see in the new comics or novel? Any chances of Darth Vader popping up in this one?
