STAR WARS: Rey-Focused Movie Reportedly Casting For Two Jedi Apprentices And A Villain

Lucasfilm's Rey-focused "New Jedi Order" movie is said to be searching for actors to play two Jedi apprentices and the film's villain. We also have updates on Ahsoka season 2 and The Mandalorian & Grogu.

It's been all quiet on the Star Wars front since the first season of Ahsoka wrapped-up last October, and for a lot longer than that when it comes to the galaxy far, far away on the big screen. Lucasfilm does have several major film and TV projects on the horizon, however, and we now have some intriguing updates courtesy of reliable insider Daniel Richtman.

Arguably the most-anticipated (depending on how you feel about the sequel trilogy) is the untitled Rey-focused movie, which will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey "Skywalker." According to Richtman, Disney and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy are currently casting three major roles: Rey's two Jedi apprentices, and an unnamed villain.

The movie will reportedly shoot in the UK later this year, and is not expected to be the first film in a new trilogy as previously rumored, but a standalone story.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but the movie will be set a whole fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and Rey will be a "powerful Jedi master" running her own training academy when we catch up with her.

Last year, Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy revealed that work on this movie is further along than we realized.

"We’ve been working on that film for a few years and all of that feeds into our overall storytelling. So we’ve just got to a point now where we’ve got a wonderful writer in Steven Knight, and we’re probably going to see a script in the next month and a half that we’ve been working on for quite a while. So we’re getting close."

Of course, this was prior to the Hollywood strikes, which no doubt had at least some impact on the project's development.

We recently got confirmation that Ahsoka will return for a second season, and Richtman believes filming is on track for later this year, most likely Q4 (between October and December). The Mandalorian and Grogu will also commence production soon, and is rumored to shoot in LA and the UK.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said director Jon Favreau when the project was first announced. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

What do you make of these updates? Drop us a comment down below, and keep an eye out for a first look at The Acolyte, which should be coming our way soon.

They're actually making this movie?

After the disaster of Rise of Skywalker

It just shows you that they have no idea what they are doing

@WakandaTech - Remake is going to happen sooner than later if this keeps going on. If anything a rebootquel is going to happen 1st just like it did with those Terminator and Halloween sequels.

Like I understand the first 2 of her trilogy did make a lot of money but I don't really see the appeal of this. Leave the character, leave the time period and bring me Knights of the Old Republic. But pre plan it out, don't just figure the story out as you go. Not everything needs to revolve around the Skywalker family and supposed name theifs

Also haven't seen the last film, heard it was awful so didn't want to waste my time

So JJ Abrams & Rian Johnson make the sh!ttiest SW movies ever. Then Disney says let's grunt out some more content from this Rey era trainwreck.

Mickey the Rat sticking one more knife if the back of every Star Wars fan.

@DocSpock -

I just don't get it. Her trilogy didn't work. The fans don't like her films💁. It's best to kill her off quick and focus on the kid Jedi and bring in Keanu as a mentor.🖖

@AmazingFILMporg -

That could work. I just wish they would jump about 10,000 years into the future & start over.

After going back in time & killing Abrams of course.

@AmazingFILMporg - But but Bob Iger said they were focusing on quality and franchises! They can't be out of touch from the audience can they?

Maybe I'm not in the right circles or my daughter just isn't old enough for Star Wars yet but my impression is that there are not a ton of avid Ray fans as there are for most other characters. They need to move on tell a different story and in a different time period.

Also Kathleen Kennedy can just leave

Cool if true , looking forward to getting some official updates on it in the future.

I’m glad it will be standalone though and not the beginning of a new trilogy , you could use it to reintroduce Rey aswell as introduce us to the rest of the new characters who could then be used in future projects if this is successful enough.

Anyway , I’m looking forward to it since I liked Daisy Ridley’s performance as Rey aswell as the character herself…

However i still don’t think it needs to be set 15 years after TROS since that feels too much , 7 or so would be fine imo.

There a lot more Rey fans then people in this bubble think they are.

@TheVisionary25 - the claims are funny the the sequels bombed too. All three crossed the billion dollar mark each. creative and story arguments whatever. what you cant do is claim they bombed which is far from the truth. hence rey is getting a sequel on her own. those numbers dont lie. despite the tears online by toxic clowns she is popular and was the draw for three billion dollar films in a row. those fans spoke with their money and not with their keyboards like the vocal minority clowns.

I'm not really one who has been totally disappointed with all that Disney has done with Star Wars franchise. I didn't like the Trilogy, but I did enjoy 'Rogue One and think Solo gets a bad rap,and I have also enjoyed some of the TV shows (Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-wan) for the most part.

But making this movie don't really make any sense.

Rey, as a character, hasn't been someone the fans have embraced. And I'm not talking fans on just sites like this one, I'm talking the die hard 'Star wars' fans. I'm registered to some StarWars fansite and the feeling is pretty much the same with the fan base.

And as for the casual movie goer, I don't feel any enthusiam from them in a stand alone movie for her. The critism that she's a "Mary Sue" come mostly from the non-StarWars movie goer than the die-hard fans. You tube is full of videos being negative about her.

They really should concentrate on a 'Knight of the Old Republic' movie or something that distance itself form the main Skywalker story arc or during the time of the Empire or First Order. I think A KOTOR movie would win the good will of the fans and regular movie goers back.

Have Mel Brooks do his last film and make an officially licensed Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money. But he MUST have full control

The fact they havent asked John Boyega back to reprise his role as Finn and make him Force-sensitive/Jedi pupil or Knight/Master let alone even considered having Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron return as some general and give those two characters closure and focus too much attention on Rey kind of says it all with the state if Disney and “Star Wars”: [frick] men but please support our product and give us your money.

@WelcomeBackFrank - Finn as Grandmaster makes so much more sense. He knows what it's like to give people a place to belong, whereas Rey just runs around the galaxy investigating force stuff (which actually could be an interesting arc)

Still think Finn would be a far better (Grand) master than Rey imo. Rey is more of a Jedi Consular, whereas Finn is more of a Sentinel or Guardian.

Do wonder who the villain is gonna be though. Think they could use Lumiya. Instead of being cyborgified by Vader after having infiltratred the Rebel Alliance, she was cyborgified on Exegol after having infiltratred the Resistance.

The only reason they're moving forward, is they somehow are going to tell another Skywalker story or they'll connect it to something profitable. At least that's what I hope for, prove me wrong lol
