STAR WARS Spin-off Tests Over 2,500 Actors For Young Han Solo Role

In an effort to find their young Han-Solo for their prequel Star Wars spin-off, Disney has tested a staggering, 2,500 actors. Some of the names on the list are fan favorites, like, Colton Haynes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson; but there's still a chance that an unknown could win the role.

It would be hard to classify Harrison Ford's turn as Han Solo in 1977's Star Wars as anything other than iconic.  Which means that the young actor picked to carry the prequel, young Han Solo spin-off film will have pretty big shoes to fill, to say the least.  Of course all parties involved are well aware of the pressure and scrutiny that awaits and an exhaustive search is underway to find the perfect candidate.  Case in point, over 2,500 actors have tested for the role.  Some of the names on the list include:
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Godzilla)
  • Ansel Elgort (Divergent, The Fault In Our Stars)
  • Dave Franco (21 Jump Street, Neighbors)
  • Miles Teller (Whiplash, Fantastic Four)
  • Nick Robinson (Jurassic World)
  • Chandler Riggs (The Walking Dead)
  • Hunter Parrish (Weeds)
  • Rami Malek (Mr. Robot, Short Term 12)
  • Landon Liboiron (Hemlock Grove)
  • Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl)
  • Tom Felton (Harry Potter)
  • Joshua Sasse (Galavant)
  • Colton Haynes (Arrow)
  • Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction)
  • Max Thieriot (Jumper, Bates Motel)

Of course, with 2,500 actors testing there's bound to be a few more familiar names on the list. Garret Hendlund (Tron: legacy) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: Secret Service) were early fan favorites.  While they aren't specificaly mentioned there's nothing to say that they aren't also in the running.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the film which currently has a  May 25, 2018 release date.   Lawrence and Jon Kasdan penned the script.  Shooting is expected to begin January 2017.  The current working title for the feature is 'Red Cup' (Solo is the company who manufactures the plastic red cups present at every family picnic).

Awesome, hope it's an unknown. Eager to see who the Hayden Christensen is this time. Unless it's Daisy Ridley.

@Niklander Me neither. And that makes me think, that the main reason mass group of viewers would like to see "young Han Solo" movie would be if he died in The Force Awakens.
That at least makes sense - why anybody would like to see so badly that kind of Han Solo movie.

Just can't work out why rather than give us a prequel like this, we don't get Knights of the old republic, a movie set in the far future, there is a big universe of ideas out there!!!

Even though I don't like him for the role Chandler Riggs (carl from the walking dead) would absolutely pass for a young Han Solo

First, I don't want this movie.

Second, if you're going to do it, at least get the actor who can look the part.

I've got to be honest. I don't care if it looked fake or not. I'd rather have Ford play a CGI de-aged version of Solo before having someone else play him. You can't improve on what he did.

I think this movie is going to be a big mistake. Unless it's a film about a kid Han Solo, you are just not going to be able to mimic Harrison Ford. Han Solo is one of those characters that is defined by their actor. There is soooo much more they could be doing with the Star Wars universe...find something else to make a film about.

Why is this movie happening?

I get Rogue One.

I don't get the adventures of Young Han Solo.

If they can't get someone as majestic as Harrison: Blade Runner, Indiana Jones then they have failed.

@KananJarrus - I wholeheartedly agree with that choice, but I just don't want to see an actor mimicking another actor. Love your avatar, by the way!

Just another example of movie execs "milking the cash cow". Prequels are stupid. Where's the drama and suspense going to come from, if you know Han and Chewie won't die in these movies? There's no risk in the stories. The audience won't be able to invest any emotions into it. Entertaining? Perhaps a little. Suspenseful? No.

Lol @McGee off course they should, make Chewie a woman too while you are at it

You know what just re-make the whole trilogy, we all want to see a female Jabba don't we!

The strange thing to me is that half of those dudes are well into their twenties. Ford was in his mid-thirties when filming Episode IV.
I could not care less about this film being made to be completely honest; I just find it odd that they kinda did that age range of Han Solo in the movies already.
You know, like the original trilogy.
Idk. Just a weird concept for an audience to grasp I would think.
