To be honest the new Stormtroopers look cheap. Not bad looking but not great either.
They do resemble the original trilogy troops but they lack the detail & character of those.
Star Trek always went for sleek looking future tech but Star Wars was always cooler with its more rugged style.
The Clone Troops looked better too..oh well.

@sameoldthing the ruggedness you refer to in the original storm trooper design was unintentional. They made the costumes with a really cheap green polyurethane and realized after the fact that paint didn't stick to it very well. That's what you're seeing when the storm trooper armor looks scuffed up, the spots where paint wouldn't stick

^^ Good to know but I'm not just talking about the Stormtroopers. All of SW tech that's rough & rugged seems cooler than the sleek designs.
The prequels had a mixture of both tech that seemed thrown together & shiny, new looking stuff & the former just works better than the latter in this universe.

Also, the chrome armor for Phasma reminds me of the 1970's Cylons from Battlestar Galactica.
That show tried to capture the SW vibe & now it seems it's in reverse.

Oh my god...Captain Phasma tho. Chills! I'm probably the only one who wants this but I would faint if Cap. Wiped this out:
