Disney just confirmed that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will premiere in China on January 9th, just weeks after the North American premiere on December 18th. Said John Hsu, General Manager of Walt Disney China, "We are thrilled to bring Star Wars: The Force Awakens to China on January 9th. We’re excited to be rolling out our marketing campaign and to connect with new fans in China through Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

To date, the United States has a yearly box office gross of $9.798 billion USD and is tracking for a record breaking $11 billion USD. Earlier this year, China was projected to gross an end-of-the year box office total of $6 billion USD but current tracking indicates that the final tally could be significantly higher.
