STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Gets China Release Date And Poster

The #2 film market in the world will receive Star Wars: The Force Awakens fairly soon after the film premieres in North American theaters on December 18th. In this new age of international box office supremacy, which territory do you think will give Episode VII the most revenue?

Disney just confirmed that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will premiere in China on January 9th, just weeks after the North American premiere on December 18th. Said John Hsu, General Manager of Walt Disney China, "We are thrilled to bring Star Wars: The Force Awakens to China on January 9th. We’re excited to be rolling out our marketing campaign and to connect with new fans in China through Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

To date, the United States has a yearly box office gross of $9.798 billion USD and is tracking for a record breaking $11 billion USD. Earlier this year, China was projected to gross an end-of-the year box office total of $6 billion USD but current tracking indicates that the final tally could be significantly higher.

The hype for this expands WAY beyond any movie that has come out.

Not even BvS or Civil War can match this film's hype.

International posters always downplay the black characters because international audiences are more racist. They made Finn smaller than BB8! lol wtf

@PesciGotPepsi

I still don't think it'll beat Avatar. Avatar and Titanic were strange cases. Both were in release for so long (34 weeks for Avatar, 41 weeks for Titanic). If Star Wars does the standard 12-16 weeks, it'll come up well short. $2 billion would be my guess. Furious 7 did 1.5 in 11 weeks.

@MercWithAMouth

Judging from the re-sales tickets and the MASSIVE hype behind it, I really think this will be the biggest movie of all time.

Just the records it has broken already is enough to tell me.

As i wrote in the BB-8 article, I hope above all hopes that this movie doesn't turn out like Jurassic World...an average (at best) film that made its millions purely off of nostalgia. While you can't avoid the nostalgia train with Star Wars (we arguably haven't had a 'good' movie in 30 years), I really hope JJ has put as much thought and care into his story and characters as he has with channeling the spirit of the original trilogy.

.....................and the BOOTLEG version of the movie, complete with background audience noise, will come out an HOUR after its release in CHINA.

Even though he is grammatically challenged, I agree with @Jollem on this one. Marvel Studios would be the perfect choice if they wanted an amazing movie.
