Thanks to another report that Slashfilm released a few days ago, we know that there were over twenty scenes that were cut from Star Wars: The Force Awakens! Thanks to the film’s official novelization, and a draft of the original script, we now know what those scenes were! Some of them were quite pointless, however, some of them would have fit well in the film. Below, you can read about some of those scenes and the things they consisted of!
Spoilers Ahead!
First up…
Unkar Plutt vs. Chewbacca
During Han, Finn, and Rey’s visit to Maz’s castle, the official novelization revealed that Unkar Plutt, the junk buyer from Jakku, showed up and confronted Rey about “his” Millennium Falcon. After Unkar said he’s going to ”make you [Rey] and that wearisome droid pay for what you’ve done," Rey pulled out her blaster to defend herself. However, that wasn’t enough to stop the “mighty” Unkar. He quickly snatched the gun from her and issued a threat. Things looked to be going downhill until Chewbacca stepped in!
He aggressively removed the guns from Unkar’s hand, much to the delight of Rey. Unkar wasn’t done though! He poked Chewie in his injured arm, and said the following: “Half a Wookiee ain’t much to worry about, not against all of me.” Pretty tough, right? However, I should let you know that’s not what he said after Chewie grabbed his arm! Check out the excerpt from the novel below to see what happened next…
Grabbing the thrusting arm, a roaring Chewbacca twisted and ripped it off at the shoulder, throwing the dismembered limb clear across the room. Looking down at himself, Plutt let out a scream of agony as his underlings hurriedly fell back. The arm landed on a table where a group of four-armed, long-snouted Culisettos was gambling. With an annoyed huff, one of them picked up the amputated limb and absently tossed it aside, allowing the game to resume.
Another scene that the original script had, that was not seen in the film is…
Maz Kanata Using The Force!
Surprising, right? Even though Maz didn’t display her force powers in the film, the original script revealed that she did indeed have the powers of the force! Well, at least in that version! Here’s how the report from Slashfilm said it went down!
In the original script, Maz Kanata had Force powers. After the First Order begins their attack on the castle, Maz used her Force powers to cause the ceiling to cave in on a group of stormtroopers that had them cornered. In the sequence, Han Solo was forced to stall the stormtroopers to allow Maz to concentrate. There was a funny back and forth between him and the trooper. Han runs out of things to say so he rats out Finn, revealing that he recognized Finn’s stormtrooper boots — this is how he knew he wasn’t Resistance.
I would have loved to see that in the film! Would you? Last but not least...
Rey's Extended Conversation With General Leia
Next up is one of the final scenes from the film. The scene that saw General Leia tell Rey: “May the force be with you.” Even though that’s all they said in the film during that sequence, the official novel revealed that more words were exchanged! Check out their extended conversation below!
“I’m proud of what you’re about to do,” she told the girl. Rey replied in all seriousness. “But you’re also afraid. In sending me away, you’re—reminded.” Leia straightened. “You won’t share the fate of our son.” “I know what we’re doing is right. This is how it has to be. This is how it should be.” Leia smiled gently, reassuringly. “I know it, too. May the Force be with you.”
