STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER's John Boyega Joins Black Lives Matter Protest In London

John Boyega has always been a vocal supporter of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actor has now used his voice to draw attention to the cause at a protest in London.

As protests continue to rage all over the world, the latest celebrity to add their voice to the #BlackLivesMatter movement is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actor John Boyega.

Boyega, who plays Finn in the sequel trilogy, joined a protest in London today, delivering a passionate and emotional speech through a megaphone as the crows gathered outside the Parliament Building.

“Black lives have always mattered," the British actor exclaimed. "We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting.”

Boyega has never been afraid to speak out about these issues, and first drew attention to the video of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on George Floyd's neck shortly before his death by Tweeting, "I [frick]ing hate racists" (believe it or not, this proved to be a divisive statement).

Many other celebs have publicly shown their support for #BlackLivesMatter, but Boyega is one of only a handful - including Thor: Ragnarok's Tessa Thompson, John Wick's Keanu Reeves and pop megastar Ariana Grande - to show up to a protest in person.

You can donate to Black Lives Matter HERE. Stay safe out there folks.

Finn literally was a cop that watched police brutality and then quit.

@BlackBeltJones - the more Trump makes his “moves” the more I hear lines like...

“Only a sith deals in absolutes”
“This is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause.”
“The more you tighten your grip Tarkin, the more star systems with slip through your fingers.”

Lucas had his strengths and weaknesses ...but he laid it all out pretty well in the Saga.

@IronGenesis - Even more on the nose than that, he played a cop in the movie Detroit.

@IronGenesis - I think he was more of a slave-turned-soldier than he was a "cop," but I see the point you're trying to make.

Boyega has been an absolute boss from the start of this. Calling out anti-black racism specifically from a white supremacist society and outright REFUSING to let his discussion descend into "what about other types of racism" water muddying which always happens. There are tons of forms of racism in the world, this moment is just about centering on a specific time and capturing the moment.

Can't put into words how awesome his passion is here, especially considering the brand(s) he's associated with and how crippling most celebrities would allow that to be in these circumstances.

Literally everyone is on the side of George Floyd and his family. Everyone should unite as his murderer is prosecuted lawfully.

@RorMachine - you are right. I believe there was a poll in the US that stated 96% are supporters. That is about as unanimous as a position can be, especially in the US.

@RorMachine - You will never get ALL. But the rhetoric that voices are not being heard is just plainly false. I do not personally know a single person, politician, official that doesn't agree that George Floyd was wrongfully murdered and it was a terrible tragedy. There is not anyone of the same that I have condoned such behavior or action from any law enforcement. Outlying racist extremist may be ok with it but strong strong strong majority of this nation does not condone it.

@HeavyMetal4Life - That’s why you have to vote. Get the people who didn’t vote 4 years ago to vote. If you know anyone who says I’m not going to vote because my vote doesn’t matter put some sense in their brains. We can’t afford 4 more years of this circque de soleil

pucrepeap
pucrepeap - 6/3/2020, 1:42 PM
@PantherKing - Where is the evidence that the vote 4 years ago started a downward spiral in racial division? Obama was in office for 8 years and we had racist, cop killings, and struggles in the black community.

It's not that your vote doesn't matter, but this is not something that would be changed with Joe Biden. The guy who wants to tell someone what color they are or aren't by how they vote.
PantherKing
PantherKing - 6/3/2020, 1:54 PM
@pucrepeap - I’m not going to argue with you because I’m not going to vote for a coward who is inspecting the White House bunker. I’m not voting for any independents and yes voting matters and I refuse to be brainwashed by someone telling me change won’t come. And I would not vote for someone who divides a nation and stokes the fires of racism and white supremacy. Black lives matter.

pucrepeap
pucrepeap - 6/3/2020, 2:38 PM
@PantherKing - Can we be honest though. I belieive the Obama adminsitration was one of the most divisive presidencies, and it wasn't because HE was black, it was because like you said he stoked the fires of racism. I am a minority, so I understand what it's like, but I also support the idea that PEOPLE can change. PEOPLE can fight for their own well being. That it is not a figure head at the top that incites this divisiveness, but it's us people falling for the lies being spouted by biased media.

If you let ONE man control who you are, then who's fault is that?

You want change, do not expect it out of big government. Your Vote does matter, but I tell you where it is most effective, vote for the right local leaders. Your governors, mayors, council persons. They know your community better than anyone in DC will, they are the ones who you should look to for change.

I also implore you to look at those who look to LIFT you up, not hold you down. Those that encourage hard work and good morals, and not those that support programs designed to keep citizens in the pockets of politicians, designed to prevent progress for oppressed communities.

Yes Black Lives Matter. I don't think anyone disagrees with that sentiment, or at lease an incredibly small portion of the population might, but I believe Black communities matter. Black success matters. Black Lives follow right in place when people take care of themselves and their communities and not expect the hand of the government to do it.

@PantherKing - If you don't want to listen to other opinions, then aren't you only propagating the division you seek to abolish?
pucrepeap
pucrepeap - 6/3/2020, 2:43 PM
@PantherKing - Always ask this question. WHY?

Why does the president want to send out the national guard? Is it because of power? That can't be the case because he literally said the governors should be handling the situation. Is it because we WANTS to kill people on American Soil? Well what purpose would that serve?

So instead of making statements off of MSM headlines, think for yourself, and ask WHY? There has to be a reasonable explination for the action.

In this case it's safety. The tragic Murder of George Floyd cost a man his life. The ensuing riots have killed multiple, while destroying businesses and property. It's not a healthy environment....That's WHY the president made statements about intervening.
