THE MANDALORIAN Showrunner Jon Favreau Reveals Who He Believes Is Stronger Between Anakin And Luke Skywalker

Fans have long debated who is the more powerful Jedi, and The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau has now weighed in on who he thinks is stronger: Anakin Skywalker or his son Luke! Read on for details...

For the longest time, Star Wars fans have argued passionately about who the strongest Jedi is. Yoda, Galen Marek, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ezra Bridger, Luke Skywalker, and Anakin Skywalker are all names we frequently see come up in that debate, but the decision more often than not comes down to whoever is telling these stories at the time.

Jon Favreau is currently overseeing the small screen Star Wars Universe as The Mandalorian's showrunner and weighed in specifically on who the stronger Jedi is between Luke and his father Anakin during a recent interview.

"I think it has to be Anakin, right? I mean it has to be," he tells The Cyber Nerds (via SFFGazette.com). "I mean who - a prime Anakin? And there are so many different phases of it. But we never really got to see...we saw a little bit of prime Luke with what we did. We alluded to it, but who knows what he’s been off to?"

"But Anakin faced so many more challenges," Favreau continues. "He was in his prime in a more dynamic period in Star Wars history, right?"

Luke faced his father, who had obviously become Darth Vader by that point, twice in the original trilogy and both hold a victory over the other. Nether were in their prime, though, with Anakin constrained by the suit he was forced to wear and Luke still getting a grasp of his Force abilities.

Looking back at how Anakin was portrayed in both the prequels and The Clone Wars, we'd agree with Favreau that he likely has the edge, with the former Jedi only becoming more powerful once he embraced the ways of the Sith.

Mark Hamill reprised the role of Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, making up for what many fans felt was an underwhelming portrayal of the hero in the sequels. As for Hayden Christensen, he returned as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi and is expected to play a key role in Ahsoka later this year.

Will we finally see Anakin as a Force Ghost? Here's hoping.

That's an answer I for sure agree with.

Think Luke will never be a stronger Jedi than Anakin. In strength atleast. Think Luke is is stronger in mind, as he never really succumbed to dark impulses.

Anyway, what about Rey though? Like to believe she was only so strong because the force buffed her up to meet Ben's power level (because of balance or something).

Anakin was bad ass. Luke never came close.

As much as it kills me to admit it, he’s right.

In fairness though, Luke started a hell of a lot later and didn’t get anywhere near the training nor gain the experience in the field that Anakin did.

I’d guess Anakin too if both of them are compared in their prime. But I would guess Luke if we’re talking about them later when they get old. Luke just seems like he learned more about how to use the force and seemed to have more time to dedicate to learning more.

Let's also not forget that Luke basically had to learn everything on his own except for the very short time he spent with Obi Wan and Yoda. Anakin spent most of his life learning in a Jedi temple.

@CorndogBurglar - Yep. It's a no-brainer. Anakin for the win.

@CorndogBurglar - Anakin had literally no training when he brought down an entire armada...

@Itwasme - He blew up one blockade ship. On accident. Let's not get crazy.

So, did Jon Favreau just FORGET that Luke had that one two minute lesson with a floating ball! How many ball lessons did Anakin have, huh? How many flips in a swamp did he do while piggybacking a muppet? Not many, I assume! So, Favreau CLEARLY isn't a REAL Star Wars fan!!!!

It's Anakin. He is the Chosen One. He brought down The Sith (quite literally) to fulfill the Jedi prophecy, in the most tragic way possible. All per George Lucas, by the way.

Never thought Luke was all that powerful. What saved Luke was his faith in others, which isn't a Jedi trait tbh. For some weird reason Lucas decided to undercut this in the prequels.

Anakin at 8 was the biggest Mary Sue of the series. Luke never showed any of that potential until after he started training.

Imagine if Disney had just adapted the expanded universe?

@Oberlin4Prez - It still would have egregiously dumb moments like Palpatine coming back.

Are we talking about Legends Luke or Canon(Disney) Luke? Legends Luke was incredibly powerful. I think Legends luke edges out Anakin, with him being mentally stronger. Disney Luke, obviously Anakin would win.

Rey is just amusingly overpowered to appease the leftist virtue crowd and Kennedy.

Anakin without a doubt

As a Jedi, Anakin was stronger than Luke because he was also being groomed to tap into his dark side via Palpatine the entire time.

Luke never beats Darth Vader until he taps into his dark side, even then, Vader wasn't really willing to kill Luke deep down, but his threats made Luke enraged to open up the darkness inside of him.

Still, Luke definitely manages to overpower Vader, but only with the use of the dark side so... Yeah. In their Jedi primes, it's likely Anakin - especially since he was at the charge of so many victories in the Clone Wars.

As Force Diads, Rey and Ben are likely stronger, especially together. But the less said about their plotlines the better.

This is kinda pointless. We've seen them fight.

On top of that.... there are too many variables. We don't know anything about how strong Luke became, so we can't really even do a logical Akakin Prime vs Luke Prime. It's a really weird discussion. I'd like to think Luke would win in any scenario, simply because he has plot armor being the main protagonist of the franchise. Bad guys are expendable.

It's Anakin easily...
