Who Is Rey? STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Theory (Potential Spoilers)

Who is Rey from The Force Awakens? Some say she's Rey Solo, others say she's Rey Skywalker and some even go so far to say she's a relation of Emperor Palpatine. When 2017's Episode 8 rolls around I think we might all be surprised that she turns out to be someone else entirely...

Awe come on! At no time does this movie even hint that Rey does not know who her parents are, only that she is waiting for them. While there are definite clues that she may have her mind wiped and can't remember being a Jedi (at least until the fight with Kylo where she finally remembers everything) there's not a single thing to suggest that she wouldn't know that the famous Luke Skywalker was her father.

Maz knows and Ren is likely her cousin.

She's the girl who mastered the Force in 5 minutes....with no training.
glyoung
glyoung - 12/24/2015, 8:09 AM
@LordHarryLatts She had training, she just didn't remember it for whatever unraveled reason. This is exactly why everything came to here so easily, its why Kylo could see an "island" when he was reading her mind, its why she not only beat Kylo but she beat him with little to know effort after she remembered who she was, its why she hugged its why here and Leah hugged each other even though they seemingly never met, and its why the Resistance, for know apparent reason, let a girl they never met go to Luke's island by herself even though they had been searching for Luke themselves for quite some time.

There is a LOT that points to her being Luke's daughter but here's the most important things to me.

1. When Kylo is interrogating Rey, he mentions she's been long dreaming about an ocean and an island, which is exactly where we find Luke

2. She's also a badass pilot and tinkerer, like Luke and Anakin before him.

3. Rey's force vision in the castle corridor was extremely similar to Luke's in the Dagobah cave.

4. Maz tells Rey that the lightsaber is calling out to her after she got her force vision. And then went on to talk about its lineage.

5. Most importantly, we have Kylo reaching for Anakin's lightsaber with the force. Kylo, who is to date, the most powerful force user (in terms of telekinesis) that we have ever seen, gets the saber ripped away from him from Rey, who is barely learning to use the ways of the force.
He is a direct descendant of Vader. The only someone could possibly beat Kylo at reaching for Luke's saber would be if they are
Luke's child themselves.
Aka Rey Skywalker

Luke's daughter. It's not really a secret.
glyoung
glyoung - 12/24/2015, 8:30 AM
If she were Luke's daughter I don't see why she just wouldn't say so. As for point number 5, I could be wrong but I don't know if anything, from the movies at least, suggests that only a child of Luke Skywalker can beat Kylo at reach you at a light saber. Maybe that has more to do with your adoration for the characters and not what's actually in the movies? All that other stuff is most likely because she has trained with Luke instead of proof of him being her father.

Obi Wan was a virgin monk. What part of the prequels did you not understand?

Then why are we wasting our time speculating? Point me to where it says that she's Luke's daughter so I can quit wasting my time.

I didn't say she was obi wans daughter either. Why is everybody insisting that everybody be related to each other?

I think and hope she's a Skywalker, but the Palpatine heir theory could make sense. She has the english accent, and she kinda fights like him (she goes for a stab instead of a cut with her blade). It would explain the huge power she wields. I don't know, we'll see.
ManDeth
ManDeth - 12/24/2015, 8:37 AM
@glyoung Star Wars is the story of the f cked up Skywalkers. The series is not taking a sudden turn to Skywalkers VS the Kenobis. Rey was born 11 years after the battle of Endor. The saber was not Obi Wans.

She's not luke daughter or obiwan. Here is my theory : she's a creation from snoke. Since snoke is, for me, dark plagueis, she's another atempt to create another anakin, making her a "Skywalker". She was probably saved at a young age by some resistants she thought was her parents.

glyoung - 12/24/2015, 8:39 AM

The general opinion seems to be that she is Luke's daughter. So, who is her mother?

For those wondering, "why didnt they just say she's Luke's daughter?" The answer is that if they told us, there would not be discussions like this one, which create interest (as if they needed to create more of that).

blackagar94 - 12/24/2015, 8:44 AM
Maybe she's this trilogy's version of Starkiller from The Force Unleashed. The guy was unbelievably uber powerful. Which was fun to play.

No the Saber isn't Kenobi's, but that doesn't mean she's looks daughter just because she has his saber. And again, most importantly, there is nothing in the movie that suggests that Rey does not know who her parents are. She at no time says Luke Skywalker is my dad, I'm waiting for Luke Skywalker and my mom, oh did you say Luke Skywalker well that's my dad, I'm waiting for my parents but I have no idea what they look like.

Said that here in a comment here after i saw the movie on opening day (Fri 18th). The voice over of Obi-Wan means there has to some kind of physical connection between the characters. Ans the phrase said is the key. I'm more interseted in the Score of Plageus and Snoke. But Serkis hasd said that his character has a connection to the original trilogy. Have to watch Jedi again, and look over Palpatines associates that are with him in a few scenes. And re-read A New Hope's words in the beginning, really tells what Rogue One will be about, the Rebel's will score their 1st Victory against the Empire, and steal the plans.
glyoung
glyoung - 12/24/2015, 8:48 AM
For Rey to be Luke's daughter she would have to have not mentioned a word about it or she doesn't remember who her parents are and has not mentioned a word about that either. Both would be an example of incredibly bad writing.
ManDeth
ManDeth - 12/24/2015, 8:57 AM
The original story was that Luke would fall in love and have a kid after 6. Meets his sister in 7 and Palpatine and Luke face off in 9. Of course that was altered. Palpatine was used and killed early. Leia was changed to Luke's sister. But Luke still has a kid.

You still have Luke's sister, Sith lord who was behind the scenes during entire saga and Luke's child.

She is a Kenobi.

Skywalker is way too obvious.

Good amount of proof supporting Kenobi. Why would Leia/Han/Kylo Ren not recognize her if she was a Skywalker?
glyoung

@ManDeth

You do know that Disney bought Lucasfilms and threw all that out right? We know nothing that happens after 6 other than what we just saw.

Freeworld87 - 12/24/2015, 9:03 AM

She even said that she tought luke was a myth. Naaa I tell you guys she's another creation from plagueis and that's why there is a connexion between her and Ani's lightsaber. She's probably created from the same genepool, hence she's a Skywalker but not luke's daughter. And that's why she's so powerful.

Just think about it : Maybe Kylo has joined Snoke because he told Him "I'm the one who created your grandfather, I made him the perfect weapon for the darkside but because he was tempted by the light, he died at the end." That's maybe why Kylo is so obsessed by his grandfather legacy in the darkside and doesnt focus at all on the fact that he was the one who brought down the Emperor by reaching the lightside !

I'm trying to imagine Abrams pitching this idea to Disney.

Abrams: How about we put Rey on and planet where she's waiting for the return of her parents. She's actually Luke's daughter but she never tells anybody until episode 8 even though his name has been mentioned several times because...reasons. Nobody will ever suspected and minds will be blown.

Disney: JJ after all of these years this is what you come up with? You sir are a genious! Here's millions of dollars for you to make that happen.
